Description

ATENT OFFICE.
CHRISTIAN IVERSON, OF BOULDER CREEK, CALIFORNIA.
SWIMMING-GLOVE tween the second finger stall and the wrist strap, whereby the glove will be effectively prevented a from slipping off of the hand while in use, the construction being such that the glove may be produced at a smaller cost and is rendered more durable and'eflicient than similar devices heretofore used.
The above object is attained in the construction illustrated in the accompanying drawing, in which,
Figure 1 is a perspective view of one of my improved swimming gloves adapted for use on the right hand; and Fig. 2 is acentral longitudinal sectional view.
The glove comprises a flexible sheet 1 having substantially the contour of the hand when the fingers are spread apart. preferably made of water-proof material such as fabric covered withrubber. Upon the rear face of the sheet are provided stalls 3, 3. 4, 5. (3 for the reception of the thumb and four lingers, said stalls being of suitable size and shape, and mad v preferably from fabric or similar flexible material, whereby the entire glove will give to the closing movement of the hand. It will be noted,
stalls form webs, and in order to support these web portions when. the hand is opened, the-edge of the sheet is folded over upon itself ina rearward direction, as shown at 7, and securedby a row of stitching 8. This fold forms a reinforcing rim and is made to extend entirely around the sheet, as clearly seen in Fig. 1. The several stalls are similarly secured by stitching 9 and the ,outer ends of all of them are inserted beneath the fold 7 and closed by the same and by the stitching 8. The outer side edges of the Specification of Letters Iatent.

1909. Serial No. 504,357.
thumb stall 2 and the little finger stall 6 are also arranged and secured beneath the fold 7, as shown in Fig. 1.
In order to effectively retain the glove upon the hand, I provide awrist band or strap 10 and a back strap 11, \VlllCll latter is formed integral with the stall t for the second finger and has at its end a loop 12 for the reception of the wrist strap. Said I wrist strap has its intermediate portion arranged transversely across the rear edge of;
the sheet 1 and secured thereto by one or more rows ofstitching 13, and on the short end of said strap is secured a buckle 14; which permits it to be adjusted. The loop loosely receives the long end of the wrist strap and is formed by folding the free end of the back strap upon itself and securing it by stitching l5. The-back strap eti'ectively prevents the fingers from slipping out of the stalls when the handis closed and also when it is opened. and by making said .back strap integral with the second linger stall :t, the glove is not only rendered stronger and more durable. but also less expensive and easier to make. The use and operation of the invention is obvious from the foregoing. and it will be understood that the left hand glove lSSilnl lar to but the reverse of the one illustrated.
