Description

Pat anted Feb. .20, 1917.
.JBRUHE UNITED STATES PATES'T OFFICE.
LOUIS JOS. BRUNE, OF ALGIERS, LOUISIANA.
CLASP-HOLDER ron IRONS.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Feb. 20,1917.
Application t omen 21, 1918. sum in meat.
' To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that-I, -LOUIS Jos. BRUNE, a citizen of the United States, residing at Algiers, in the parish of Orleans, State of Louisiana, have invented a new and useful Clasp-Holder for Irons; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
The present invention relates to a clasp holder for fiat irons, and has for its object to provide a device of this character which embodies novel features of construction whereby it can be readily appliedto or removed from the handle, of an ordinary flat iron and will enable the flat iron to be handled without the use of a rag or cloth holder, and without danger of burning the hands.
Further objects of the invention are .to provide a flat iron holder which is simple and inex ensive in its construction, which can be a most instantly applied to or removed from -the handle of any conventional flat iron, and which enables a hot fiat iron tofbe handled without burning the fingers.
With these and other objects in view, the invention consists in certain novel combina tions and arrangements of the parts as will more fully appear'as the description procoeds, the novel features thereof being pointed out in the appended claims.
For a full understanding of the invention, reference is to be had to the following description and accompanying drawings, in which:-
Figure 1 is a side elevation of a flat iron provided with a holder constructed in ac oordance with the invention.
Fig. 2 is an enlarged transverse sectional view through the clasp holderand fiat iron handle, said viewbeing taken on the line 2 2; of Fig. 1. a
Fig. 3 is of Fig. 1.*
Fig. 4 is adetail view I ofthe clasp holder,
the two halves thereof shown as swungapart into an open position.
Corresponding and like parts are referred to in the following description and indicated in all the views of the drawings by the same reference characters.
For the purpose of illustration, the holder is shown as applied to the handle 1 of an ordinary flat iron 2, the upper portion of a snail a n theli'ne 3-3] the handle being enlarged at 1 in the usual manner to p1 'ovide a .hand hold which can be more readily 'gras ed by the hand. Or dinarily, rag and 0 0th holders are used when graspirg the handle of the flat iron in order to prevent burning of the hands,
- and the object of the'present invention is to from the ends of therecesses 4 through the ends of the he Ives B of the holder, said necks being angulai'lydisposed {and being adapted to receive the reduced end portions of the handle 1 in such a manner as to interlock therewith and prevent bodily rotation of the holder upon the. handle. The two halves 3 of th e holder are hingedly connected with each other at their upper edges, as indicated at H, said upper edges being also correspondingly recessed to provide a pocket 7 within whic h a coil spring 8 is housed, the respective extremities of the said spring beingextendid laterallyat 8 and secured w to the halves 3 of the holder sothat thetension in the s ring normally tends to swing the halves o sition.
The. swingi: 1g edge of oneof the halves 3 is providedv ith a latch plate 9, while the nose 10 of a spring latch member-10 prothe holder into-an open pojects from the swinging edge of the oppositehalf 3, said nose being adaptedto engage the latch plate to lock. the two halves of the holder securely together when they are forcibly cIosed. The spring latch mem berlO is suit i'bly let into the member 3 so as not to interfere with-the smooth exterior.
surface of the latter, and a button 11 which projects from the spring latch member-terminates flush with the surface of the member 3, so that it .does therefrom,
inwardly by the pressure of one of the When this button is thus forced of the spring latch disengaged from the latch fingers. inwardly the nose 10 member 10 in not project outwardly. although it can be readily forced its -plate 9 and the two ha1ves 3 of the home?- -swung into an p n position by the action of .the spring 8.- v
If desired, the recesses 4 may be'lined with asbestos or like material, as indicated at 12, and corrugated spring plates 13 may be arranged over the lining in such a manner as to yieldably engagethe enlarged portion lof the flat iron handle. 1 to take up any looseness which would otherwise be pres- Q- ent, The flat, ironhandle'is -thus securely @grippedin suchfa manner that'it can be easily 'ha'ndled without danger of burning .the hands. .The; holder is "locked against bodily rotation, upon. the'flat iron handle when inposition thereon, and it can .be almost instantly clasped upon the handle, or
removed therefrom bypressing upwardly upon the button 11.
Having thus described the invention,
what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters-Patent, is
, 1. A clasp holder forflat iron handles,
including .a pair of complemental halves hingedly connected at one of their edgesandpgrrespondingl recessed on their inner faces to receive the fiat iron handle, corrurugated spring-,pl ate s extending around the gated s ring plates within. the recesses for positive y grippin theflat iron handle, and v dlesina pair of complemental; halves reduced portions of thefl'at ironhandle, cor- 'bases of the recesses for positively gripping the flat iron-"handle, and latch -means for locking theftwdcompleinental halves in a closed-position. I
1 In testimony whereof I have signed my 45 name-to-this' specification in the h presence of LWOSllbSCIIbiIlg witnesses.
