To all whom t may concern.'
Be it known that I, JOSEPH LEMIEUX, a subject of the King of Great Britain, residing at Montreal, Province of Quebec, Canada, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Boots or Shoes; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and eXact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
The present invention relates to improvements in boots and shoes, and an object of the invention-is to provide a metallic shoe which will be light in weight and comfortable to the wearer, and at the same time will be strong, durable and efficient in use.
With the above and other objects in view which will hereinafter appear as the description continues, the invention consists of the novel features of construction, combination and formation of parts as will be hereinafter more fully described and particularly pointed out in the appended claim.
In the accompanying drawings has been shown the simple and preferred formV of the invention, it being, however, understood that no limitation is necessarily made to the precise structural details herein exhibited, but the right is hereby reserved to any changes, alterations or modifications to which recourse may be had that come within the scope of the invention without departing from the spirit thereof or sacrificing the efficiency of the same.

Referring now more particularly to the accompanying drawings wherein like and corresponding parts are designated by similar reference characters throughout the several views.
The shoe as herein shown is to be made entirely of metal preferably aluminium which is very light' thereby greatly reducing the weight of the shoe, or the shoe may comprise a steel sole and heel and the upper part thereof comprise aluminium thereby making the shoe more durable.
This shoe comprises a whole sole l which consists of metal and which may comprise either aluminium or steel and a heel 2 connected thereto in a suitable manner which may be also of metal. Projecting from the sole and heel of the shoe are the spikes or projections 3 which are used for anti-skidding purposes. rfhe upper of the shoe is preferably made of aluminium comprising a permanent section 4 and a hingedly connected section 5. The front section 4 of the shoe may be pressed in any desired shape or configuration or may Vhave ornamentations upon the front thereof to indicate the ordinary shoe laces of the common uppers of leather shoes. The rear end of the section 4 is open so that the foot may be inserted in place when presenting the shoe for use and secured to the outer faces of the rear edges of the section 4 are the vertical straps 6 forming recesses within which are adapted to rest the opposite side edges of the section 5. The section 5 is hingedly connected to the shoe as at 7 and when opened as shown in dotted lines in Fig. l the-foot may be inserted in the shoe, but when the section 5 is closed as shown in full lines in Fig. l the foot of the wearer is completely nclosed by a metallic covering and a rubber backing may be placed between the straps 6 and the section 4 thereby insuring a water-tight connection between the sections 4 and 5 of the shoe for preventing water or other foreign matter from entering into the shoe. For holding the section 5 in closed position a strap 8 encircles the upper end of the uppers and is held in place by means of the eyelets 9 carried by the sections 4 and 5. Arranged upon the inner face of the upper ends of the sections 4 and 5 is an annular cushion l0 which is adapted to rest upon the leg of the wearer thereby preventing the uppers of the shoe from injuring the wearer and at the same time making the shoe more comforta le.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
A metallic shoe of the character described comprising a metallic sole, a metallic upper connected thereto, said upper comprising a front and a rear section, said front section having its rear end open, said rear section adapted to close the rear open end of the front section, meansrfo'r pivotally Connecting the 1ower end-of the rear section to the shoe, means for connecting the'upper end of the Sections together, vertical straps se- 5 cured to the rear edges of the front section, the edges of the rear section adapted to rest between said straps and the frontsection,
and a, euson arranged within the upper ends of said sections for the purpose set forth.
