To all whom it may concern.

Be it known that I, HERBERT O. COOK, a citizen of the United States of America, and resident of Springfield, in the county of Hampden and State of Massachusetts, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Knockdown Tables, of which the following is a full, clear, and-exact description.

This invention'relatcs to iuun'oven'ients in a table having for the object thereof to so construct or compose thetable that all of the parts thereof'including the table top forming sections, bracing or stiffening means for the adjoined sections, and the leg members may be disconnected one from the other so as to be disposed in compact shape, and to occupy but slight space, whereby large numbers of the knocked down tables may be readily transported in small packages Or stowed away within small space when the tables are not to he used.

These knock down tables are especially well adapted to be employed as banquet tables, as well as tables of the character indicated for any use.

The invention is described in conjunction with the accompanying drawings and is set forth in the claims.

In the drawings Figure 1 is a perspective view showing the components of the sectionally formed and knock down table, the parts being partially assembled.

Fig. 2 is a longitudinal vertical section as taken on the line 22, Fig. 1.

Referring to the drawings, A A represents two edgewise matching table top sections having at their adioined edges interengaging dowels a and sockets as shown in Fig. 2.

The table top sections have downwardly opening threaded sockets (Z (Z at their outer corner portions. Cleats B are provided to extend across the adjoining matched edges 7 of the sections A in contact on the under surfaces of the latter; and they are provided with holes 9 through their end portions to register with said threaded sockets.

loosely through the holes 9 near the ends of the cleats and with screw engagements in the sockets /Z in the table top sections, and turned sufliciently to bring the shoulders against the cleats, the latter are securely clamped and held in closed relations to the under surface of the sectionally formed table top.

The table top sections A have near their matching edges 7 depending studs or dowels 7i: 7'; over which the walls of holes or sockets in the cleats have engagements to provide means for detachable interlocking engagements-between the cleats and table top sections, for preventing the endwise separation of such sections.

As represented in the drawings, each cleat B is preferably formed of intermediate and outer end sections 0, and 0 0 Some of these sections hai e across their ends tongues s, and others have grooves t in which the tongues have matching engagements; and the endwise adjoined cleat sections have dowels 0r studs a endwise projecting beyond the tongues, and sockets o in which the matching dowels or studs have detachable engagements.

The mode of disassemblage and effecting the connections of the several parts comprised in this table as well as that of the disassemblement will be manifest from an inspection of the drawings; and from the latter it will be perceived that neither the legs nor the cleat forming sections are of dimensions exceeding that of one of the rectangular table top sections, so that when the table is knocked down, a bundle, or the space for occupancy of the separated parts, need have no superficial size greater than included within the borders of one of the table top sections and a thickness of inconsiderable dimension.

I claim 1. A knock down table, consisting of two edgewise matching table top sections having downwardly opening threaded sockets at their outer corner portions, cleats to 6X- tend across the adioining edges of the sections, in contact with the under surfaces of the latter, and having holes througlr their end portions to register with said threaded sockets, each cleat being formed in three sections having both tongue-andgroove, and dowel-and-socket engagements at their adjoined and matched ends, and each intermediate cleat section having detachable interlocking engagements with the table top sections, and leg members having, at their upper ends, axially extended stems of reduced diameter, the extremities of which are threaded for engagement in the sockets and having shoulders, at a distance from the ends of the stems for clamping engagement against the cleats.

A knock down table, consisting of two edgewise adjoined table top sections, having matching dowel-andsocket engagements and provided with downwardly opening threaded sockets at their outer corner portions, cleats to extend across the adjoining edges of the sections, in contact with the under surfaces of the latter, and having holes at their end portions to register with said threaded sockets, each cleat being formed in three sections having both tongue-andgroove, and dowel-and-socket engagements at their adjoined and matched ends, and each intermediate cleat section having detachable interlocking engagements with the table top sections, and leg members having, at their upper ends, axial stems of reduced diameter, the extremities of which are threaded for engagement in the sockets and having shoulders, at a distance from the ends of the stems for clamping engagement against the cleats.

3. A knock down table, consisting of two edgewise matching table-top sections having downwardly opening threaded sockets at their outer corner portions, cleats to extend across the adjoining edges of the sections, in contact with the under surfaces of the latter, having detachable socket and dowel engagements with the table top sections, and having holes through their end portions to register with said threaded sockets, and leg members having, at their upper ends, axial stems of reduced diameter, the extremities of which are threaded for engagement in the sockets and having shoulders, at a distance from the ends of the stems for clamping engagement against the cleats.
