EQUIPMENT DEVICE.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Jan. 30, 1917.
Application led September 4, 1915. Serial No. 49,059.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, NELLIE S. DAY, a citizen of the United States of America, and resident of Springfield, in the county of Hampden and State of Massachusetts, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Equipment Devices, of which the following is -a full, clear, and exact description.
This invention relates to an equipment device especially designed to be provided on an automobile and having the nature of a holder or container for articles needed by -women who occasionally or habitually ride in the motor car.
The invention is described in conjunction with the accompanyingdrawings, and is defined in the claim.
In the drawings, Figure l is a perspective view of the device; Fig. 2 is a vertical section on line 2 2, Fig. 1 and Fig. 3 is a cross-section on line 3-3, Fig. 1.
In the drawings in which the device is shown, A represents a pouch havin an opening at its top, and the rear wall of w ich has an upper extension Hap a to overlap the front wall and form a closure for the mouth of the pouch; b b represent members of glove fastenings, or snaps, for confining the fiap a in its closed position, and yet permitting readily the opening of the flap when desired; c and d represent straps, or attachment members, at the rear upper part of the back of' the pouch, to be united by the snap-fastening c to form a loop, by means of which the pouch-comprising device may be suspended from the robe-rail f, usually found at the front of the tonneau of an automobile. y v
On the front wall of the pouch, and comprising but part of the area of such wall, is a supplemental ply, or wall, g, constituted by a layer of flexible material which, at its margins, is secured by stitches 7L to the front of the pouch, and overlies and incloses a pad z' of suitable material to form a cushion. 'Ihe said cushion-inclosing wall or ply g has perforati'ons therethrough, which perforations are surrounded by eyelets y' near its upper end for the easy insertion, lengthwise, down into the cushion, of
long hat pins, lc, as shown. The cushion obviously is adapted to receive, also, smaller pins m of other descriptions,.as indicated.
Sewed 011 the front of the cushion, at the lower part thereof, is a comparatively small pocket, o, provided with a closing flap p :for which the fastening q' is provided and in whcich a supply of hair pins 7' may be carr1e The rear wall of the main pouch A, near the pouch mouth, is` provided with an internal flap t secured by stitching along'its upper edge and serving, for instance, as shown, to carry safety pins u.
The pouch has on its rear wall a pocket lv, provided with a closing flap w having a fastening and in which pocket goggles y are carried.
The main pouch A is primarily designed as a receptacle for a veil-one being indicated by z. v
The device is to be made of flexible leather, or any other material, or fabric having a fitness to the purpose.
Friends of automobile owners invited to ride or tour 'on short notice, and unprepared, will, upon entering the car in which the hereinabove'described device is an equipment` find in readiness for their use articles of need and such as they might not have had the opportunity of providing themselves with; there being readily accessible the veil, hat pins, as well as other small head-provided pins, safety pins and hair pins, as, also, the goggles-these provisions being greatly to the convenience of the occasional or`habitual rider and a satisfaction to the hospitable owner of the car.
I claim An equipment device of the character described consisting of a pouch, the rear Wall of which has an upper end extension flap to overlap the front wall and form a closure for the mouth of the pouch, the front wall of the pouch having externally a supplemental wall of fiexible material which is marginally stitched to such pouch Wall, and
cushioning padding inclosed Within the stitch-united walls, said supplemental wall 'having eyeleted perforations therethrough near its upper end, said supplemental cushion inclosingr wall having a, lsip closed pocket at the lower portion thereof, the pouch also having ut its rear side a flap closed pocket, and Suid pouch being provided with attuchuble iexible members to form u loop for the suspension of the device from the robe ruil in :1n automobile tonneau.
Signed by me at Springell, Mass., in presence of two Subscribing witnesses.
