IMPROVEMENT IN CLOTHES-DRIERS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 121,349, dated November 28, 1871.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JAEEZ B. FELLows, of Augusta, in the county of Kennebec and State of Maine, have invented a new and valuable Improvement in Clothes-Driers; and l do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the construction and operation of the same, reference being had to the annexed'drawing making a part of this specification, and to the letters and figures of reference marked thereon.
Figure 1 of the drawing is a vertical central section view of my invention. Fig. 2 is a transverse central section through the collar.
This invention has relation to a clothes-drier having a vert-ical post and folding arms 5 and the novelty consists in the construction and arrangement of an adj ust-able sliding collar, designed for the purpose of keeping the arms extended7 as hereinafter described.
In the accompanying dra-win g, A represents a vertical post, cylindrical in form, and supported in the ground or on a suitable sill provided for it.A B designates a cap pivoted to the top of the post and provided with the lugs C, to which are hinged the diagonal brace-arms d. D designates a c ollar constructed with lugs d', to which are hinged the long arms E. To the arms E are pivoted, as shown, the arms d. The collar D is arranged to slide up and down the post A to eX- pand or fold up the arms E. F designates ropes stretched from one to the other of the arms E, and used to hang clothes on. G indicates a collar encircling the post A below the collar D. It is constructed with a square lug, G', projecting from one side. rlhis lug is recessed on its inner, upper, and lower sides, and holds a flanged plate,
g, the inner surface of which is concave to eoin' cide with the form of the post A. This plate is adjustable, and is actuated by means of athumbscrew, h, passing through the lug G from the outside. By means of said plate and screw the collar G may be fastened at any point along the post A to which it may be moved. The function of this collar is to support the arms E in an eX- tended position, as shown. s
What I claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
The collar Gr, constructed with the lug G', and holding the plate g and adjusting-screw h, when applied to a clothes-drier having movable arms E, in the manner and for the purpose set forth.
