Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 103.638, dated May 31, 1870.
To all whom t may concern:
Be it known that I, ROBERT MCKENNA, of VVhites Station, in the county of Shelby and State of Tennessee, have invented an Improvement in Oot-ton-Gins, of which the following is a specitcation:
Nature and Object of 'my Invention.

Figure I is a longitudinal sectional elevation of a cotton-gin embodying my invention. Fig. II is a side elevation of the same. Fig. III is a plan of the same. Fig. IV is a longitudinal section of e j' g enlarged. Fig. V is the plan of e f g enlarged.
General Description.
a is the frame of the cotton-gin. bis the saw-cylinder. c is the brush-cylinder. d is the roll. h is the breast, all constructed, located, and operated in the usual manner. o is the slat, which constitutes the main part of my i11- vention. It is placed horizontally and longi-v tudinally onthe upper surface of the roll d, and held in position by the springs ff, the stationary ends of which are fastened to the beam ofthe breast h.
The amount of pressure ot` the slat c on-the roll d is regulated by the thumb-screws g g, which pass through an orifice in the springs j' j' near their stationary ends, and screw into the beam of the breast h.

I claim as my improvement and desire to secure by Letters Patent-` The slat e and springs ff, when combined and arranged as specified.
