JAMES H. TIZZARD, OIF EATON, XS-SIGNOR TO'HIMSELF AND SAMUEL B.
TIZZARD. `Oli DAYTON, OHIO.
Letters Patent No. 113,707, dated April 11, 1871.
IMPROVEMENT lN-LEHATHER'ROUNDING MACHINES.
The Schedule referred to in Vthema Letters Patent and :making part of the lame.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, J AMES H.`T1'zzARD, of Eaton, in the county of Preble and State of Ohio, have 'invented certain new and useful Improvements in Round ing-Machines; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawing and to the letters of reference marked thereon which form a part of this specification.
lhe nature of my invention consists in the'construction and arrangement ot'a machine for rounding leather, as will be hereinafter more fully set forth.
AIn order to enable others skilled in the art to which my invention appertains to make and use the same, I
will now proceed to describe its construction and operation, referring to the annexed drawing, in whichj Figure 1 is a side elevation, and V Figure 2 a transverse vertical sectionof my machine. l
The end pieces of the frame of my machine are composed each of two parts, A and A', placed on top of each other, with bolts B B passing vertically through them.
The lower parts A A of the end pieces are connected by a bar, C, while the upper parts A' A are connected at their upper ends by a curved bar, D, as'
shown in fig. l.
On the upper ends of the bolts B Bof each end ,piece is placed the end of another curved bar, D', running above and parallel with the bar D.'thus connecting the bolts.
llhrough the center of this upper bnr D' is passed a screw, E, the lower end of. which is inserted in the center ot' the bar D, and thus by the turning of said screw the bar I), with the parts A' A,'cau be raised and lowered at will on the bolts B B.
In the parts A A one roller, G, has its bearings, and in the parts`A A another roller, G', is placed,
and hence it will be seen that, by the use of the screw E, the upper roller G' may be raised to insert the work and then lowered on the same.
These rollers are provided with a series of grooves, as shown, of unequal depthA and wdth,.so that any size or kind of work may be done with the same mawhich the blacking is poured, and from which it passes through perforations in the bottom to a chamber, b. The mouth of this chamber is Veryparrow, and extends the whole length of the blacker, and in the same is inserted sponge d, which absorbs the blacking. The rounded leather, coming in contact with the sponge d, is thus blackened.
The blackcr is provided with alid, L, which is hinged, and when turned back presentsaseries of' semicircular notches corresponding in size with the grooves on the rollers, and through which the rounded andA blackened leather will pass to be relieved of all superfluous blacking.
Having thus fully described my invention,
What I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
l. The blacker J, constructed as described, with trough a,.chamber b, and sponge d, substantially as and for the purposes herein set forth.
2. In combination with the blacker J, the springs K K- and notched lid L, all substantially as and for the purposes herein set. forth.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my own I affix my signature in presence of' two witnesses. JAMES H. TIZZARD.
Witnesses:
SAML. B. Tizzano, JOSEPH L. ZELL.
