Description
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE LAKEN D. WILLIAMS, OF BETHEL, KENTUCKY, ASSIGNOR TO HIMSELF AND JAMES E. LETTON, OF SAME PLACE.
IMPROVEMENT IN MACHINES FOR ROUNDINGLEATHER.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 156,615, dated November 3, 1874 application led f March '28, 1874.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, LAKEN DoRsEY WIL- LIAMs, of Bethel, in the countyof Bath and State of Kentucky, have invented a new and Vuseful Improvement i-n Machine for Rounding Leather,`of which the following is a specication:

The invention will first be fully described, and then pointed out in the claim.
A` represents the base or bed plate of my improved machine, to the ends of which are attached two posts or standards, B C, one of which is made low, and to its upper end is hinged the end of the bar D, the ends of which are bent downward nearly at right angles to meet the ends of the posts B G. The other end of the bar D is rabbeted upon both sides to form a tenen, which enters a vertical slot formed in the higher post C, where it is secured in place by a key, E, `which passes through a hole in the said bar and standard. F Gr are two similar rollers, the journals of the lower one, F, of which revolve in halt'- bearings in slots in the postsB C. The journals of the upper roller, G, revolve in half-.bearings in slots in the bent-down ends of the bar D, and are kept from dropping out, when the said bar D is raised, by pins H passed through the ends of the said bar below the said journals, as shown in Fig. 1. In the face of the rollers F G are formed half-round grooves, which correspond with each other, so as to form circular openings between the two rollers. The grooves in the two rollers are graduated or vary in size, so as to round the leather to any desired size. The grooves may be arranged the largest at one end and the smallest at the other end; or the smallest grooves may be in the center and the larger toward the ends, or in any other desired manner. The rollers F G may have gear-wheels I attached to one or both ends to make them turn equally, or they may be made without gear-wheels, as may be desired. The journals of one or the other of the rollers F Gr may project and have a crank, J, attached to it, so that the rollers F G may be revolved by turning the crank J; or the crank J may omitted and the rollers revolved by drawing the leather through them. K are set-screws, which pass in through the bar D, and the forward ends of which rest against the journals of the roller Gr, or against the half-bearings of said journals, so that the wear may be conveniently taken up.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- The combination with posts B C, in which are received the journals of lower roll, of the end-bent and end-recessed connecting-bar D, hinged to the former and tenoned to fit amortise of the latter,and receiving the journals ofthe upper roll, in the manner described.
