IMPROVEMENT IN CLO'l'HES-D RlERS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 122,071, dated December 19,1871.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, WILLIAM A. SLEPPY, of Berwick, in the county of Columbia and State of Pennsylvania, have invented a new and valuable Improvement in Glothes-Driers; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the construction and operation of the same, reference being had to the annexed drawing making a part of this specification, and to the letters and figures of reference marked thereon.
Figure 1 of the drawing is a representation of a vertical central section of my invention.
This invention has relation to clothes-driers; and it consists in the construction and novel arrangement of a revolving frame or reel having lines upon which to hang clothes, and adapted for expansion and contraction at will, as herein after described.
Referring to the accompanying drawing, A represents a rounded post provided with an enlarged base, B, and supported in a vertical position by means of legs B. C G designate hubs arranged to revolve on the post A, the hub O resting on a shoulder, B, near the upper end thereof. The
hub 0 is shown located near the lower end of the post, but is capable of being moved up and down. These hubs are constructed with lugs d d, to which are pivoted or hinged the arms E E respectively. The outer ends of the arms E E are hinged together, the former being provided with lugs F, between each pair of which the end of an arm, E, fits. G indicates lines which pass through holes g made in the arms E. These lines are used for the purpose of holding the clothes to be dried.
The drawing shows the clothes-drier expanded ready for use. The arms are folded up, somewhat as the ribs of an umbrella, by moving up the hub O. The base B prevents the hub from falling too low, and thus renders the arms E self-locking to keep the reel expanded.
I claim as my invention- The hub O, in combination with the arms E, F, and E, cords G, and enlarged base B, constructed and arranged to operate substantially as specified.
