WITN Ems 'INvEN oR WM A/Mez PEBCIVALSEWELL ROBARTS, 0F OTTAWA, ONTARIO, CANADA.
' MA'roH-s'rnIKER. I
Application filed January 28, 1916. Serial No; 74,924.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, PERCIVAL SEWELL RoBAR'rs, a subject of the King of Great Britain, and resident of Ottawa, in the Province of Ontario, Canada, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Match-Strikers, of which the following isa specification.
The invention relates to improvements in match strikers as described in the present specification and illustrated by the accompanying drawings that form part of the same.
My invention relates to match strikers and it consists essentially in the novel construction and arrangement of parts as'will-be hereinafter described and particularly point{ ed out in the claims.
The invention relates articularly to match strikers to be pinned securely to a garment, wearing apparel or the like but preferably adapted to be fastened inside acoat in any position convenient for striking matches thereon. In such a place it will lie fixedly secured almost flush with the material creating no bulge or inconvenience of any kind. 7
Although but specific embodiments of this invention are herein shown and de scribed it will be understood that details of such construction may be altered or omitted and that the device may be made of any suitable material of any suitable size and in any suitable manner without departing from the spirit of the invention as disclosed in the claims.
The objects of my invention areto provide a new simple and inexpensive match striker which includes a plate with a rough surface or adapted to support a material having a rough surface and formed with the opposite ends folded to receive securing pins between said folds.
A further object is to provide a match striker that in construction and use will be simple and effective.
With these and other objects in view reference is now had to the accompanying drawings in which like numerals of refer- Specification of Letters Patent.

ence indicate corresponding parts through the several figuresand in which Figure 1 is a perspective view.- Fig. 2 1s a longitudinal section. Fig. 3 is a perspective view of an alternative form. Fig. 4 is a longitudinal section thereof.
Referring to the drawings the match str1ker comprises a plate 1 consisting of any suitable material but preferably as here shown of metal, folded at the opposite ends 2 and 3 to form receptacles or holders 4 and 5 for the securing pins 6 and 7 These pins are formed of one piece of pin wire or other suitable material adapted to pass through the folded ends 2 and 3 and fixedly secured therein said pins being pointed at each'end and bent beneath the plate 1 to form the securing means whereby thegar? ment is fixedly grasped and the striker fixedly held thereon. V
8 and 9 are side flanges formed on the plate 1 adapted, in combination with the shoulder formed by the folded ends 2 and 3, to hold an abrasive strip 10, of any suitable. material.
In Figs. 3 and 1 a modification of the invention is suggested in which the plate 1 is not folded at the ends or formed with the flanges 8 and 9 and in which the abrasive the folded ends 2 and 3 horizontally are secured in any suitable manner longitudi nally on the bottom of the plate and bent What I claim for my lnvention is 1. A device of the class described com prising a piece of metal cut to form a bodyportion having the opposite ends'folded' to receive securing pins and'provided with side flanges to hold, in combination with said folded ends, an abrasive material.
2. The combination with a plate folded at opposite ends and provided with side flanges of an abrasive material adaptedto fit therein, securing pins extending through said folded ends and inwardly bent across the back of said plate.
3. The combination With a plate folded at signed my name in the presence of two sub 10 both ends and formed with side flanges of scribing Witnesses at the city of Ottawa, in two lengths of Wire formed with pointed th Province of Ontario, this 15th day of ends fixedly 1seem-5df and extending horizond January, 1916.
