Description

E. L. ANDERSON.
SNAP FASTENING.
APPLICATION FILED APR. 25. 1916.
Patented; J an. 9, 3917.
Emmi-n] "the disk SNAP-FASTENING.
Application filed April 25, 1916.
To (ZZZ whom it may camera:
Be it known that I, EDWARD L. ANDERSON, a citizen of the United States, residing at Attleboro, in the county of Bristol and State of Massachusetts, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Snap-Fastenings, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to certain new and useful improvements in snap ta'stenings, capable of use with cuff buttons of the separable type, garments, gloves. and the like.
The primary object of the invention is to provide av snap fastening of simple and economical structure involving minimum of parts and material.
In the drawingslligure 1 is a side elevation of a cutl' button with the present invention applied thereto. Fig. 9 is a plan viewof the male member of the cult button.
'Fi 3 is a similar view of the female memher. Fig. i is a. view similar to Fig. l, partly broken away and in section. Fig. 5 is a plan view of the locking disk, and Fig. 6 is a sectional view of the invention for useas a garn'ient fastening or the like.
As shown in Figs. 1-4. the invention is applied to a cult button in which the heads 1 and the shanks 2 are similar. The male member has the usual head 23 secured to a disk 4, which latter has its edge rolled over the flared end of the shank 2 as shown at The female member is provided with a locking d sk 6 having radial cut-outs 7 emaspring lingers or arms 8 and engages the latter at points between their ends as depicted in Fig. l, of the drawings. lhis provides means which enables the spring fingers to readily respond/to the in movement and obstruct oak movements of the headi 'by hoklmg flie fingers spaced from By reference to Fig. 4-, it will be seen that there is space between the parts of the lingers 8 which rest on the rib 1.1 and Specification of Letters Faten't.

Serial No. 93,378.
the flared end of the shank which provides for free movement of the fingers in responding to the in movement of the head 13.
in Fig. 6 a fastening especially for use in connection with garments or the like is shown. and in which the male member has a disk 12 provided with a head 13 and the female. member has a disk 14 provided with the circular rib 1,5, the female member having a top lo secured by the rolled edges 1? of the-base disk ll. The locking disk has the spring .ingers 18, all of the parts where similar or corresponding to those above referred to being identical with the same parts described in Figs. l-5 of the drawings.
in call buttons, the two parts 1, 1, are passed through the buttonholes of the two ends of the cult and then the male member 3 snapped into engagement with the female member. while in garment uses, the usual manner of atiixing the members by sewing or otherwise is followed.
Having: thus described my invention, What I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is-- 1. In a snap fastening, a male member having a head and a female member having a base disk formed with a head-receiving opening, said base disk being formed with a. struck-out rib disposed approximately central between its periphery and said opening,
and a locking disk secured at its periphery adjacentthe periphery of the base disk and. having a series of springlingers to engage the head. said rib engaging the lingers at pointsapproximately central oi the length oi. the fingers and holding same entirely out of contact with the base disk, and approximately parallel to the base disk whereby upon outward movement of the head the lingers will be moved thereby through the space between the fingre 's and the base disk before engaging the latter.
2. In a snap tastening a male member having a head and a female member having a base disk formed with a head-receivingopening. said base disk being provided with a narrow inwardly extending rib lo cated approximately central between its pe riphery and said opening, and a locking disk secured at its periphery adjacent the periphery ot the base disk and having; a series of spring lingers to engage the head, said ril; engaging the lingers" at points approxiinaiely central of the length of the fingers In testimony whereof I' have signed my and holding same entirely out of Contact. name to this specification in the presence of with the base whereby upon eutward movetwo subscribing Witnesses.
ment of the head the fingers will be moved EDWARD L. ANDERSON. thereby threugh the space between the fin- Witnesses:
. gers and the base disk before engaging the ADA E. HAGERTY,
