Description
R. ROY.
ENVELOP- APPLICATION FILED APR. 14. 1916.
Patented. Jam. 2, 1917.
REGIS ROY, OF OTTAWA, ONTARIO, CANADA, ASSIGNOR OI ONE-FOURTH TO HENRY RITCHIE, OF OTTAWA, ONTARIO, CANADA.
ENVELOP.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I. Riiois ROY. a subject of the King of Great Britain, and resident of the city of Ottawa, Province of Ontario, Dominion of Canada, have invented certain new. and-useful Improvements in Envelops, of which the following is the specification.
This invention relates to improvements in envelops particularly adapted to be used with circulars, leaflets, pamphlets, catalogues, books and the like, and the objects of the invention are to dispense with sealing means of any usual form or metal clasps and strings, to permit of the contents of the envelop being open to examination at all times, to prevent the contents from slipping out even with the roughest handling, and
generally to adapt the envelop to better perform the functions required of it.
With the above'and other objects in view the invention consists essentially of the improved construction particularly described and setforth in the following specification and accompanying drawings forming part of the same.
In the drawings, Figure 1 is a perspective view of the improved envelop. Fig. '2 is a fragmentary longitudinal section of the open end of the envelop. Fig. 3 is a plan view of an envelop blank showing one of the edges of the end folded and broken away to show the location of the flexible member therein.
Like characters of reference refer to like parts in the several figures.
Referring to the drawing, Arepre sents an envelop having the edges 10 of the opening 11 sht at each side and folded inwardly aIong the line 12 toembr'ace a flexible member 13 of string or light resilient wire therebetween, the portion of the. envelop which is bent back being secured by mucilage or the like. Both edges are treated in this manner and are then folded inwardly within the body of the envelop where they are secured by pass ng metallic clips 1-4. through the envelop ad acent to the longitudinal edges thereof, and-in this way the opening 11 becomes restricted on this envelop is in use an article B is inserted therein and is prevented from slipping out by the rounded edges formed by the fiem'ble member 13 embraced by the Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Jan. 2, 1%."8.
Application filed April 14, 1916. Serial No. 91,110.
As many changes could be made in the above construction and many apparently widely different embodiments of my invention, within the scope of the claims, constructed Without departing from the spirit or scope thereof, it is intended that all matter contained in the accompanying specifi- .cation and drawings shall be interpreted as illustratii e and not in a limiting sense.
What I claim as my invention is:
1. An envelop of the class described having the ends of the open end slit along each side and bent inwardly, a member embraced between the folded portion of the ends and secured therein by mucilage, the ends being then bent inwardly into the body of the envelop, and means for securing the said ends in fixed position.
2. An envelop of the class described having the ends of its opening slit along each edge and bent inwardly, a strip of flexible resilient material embraced by the bent portion of the edges and secured therein by mucilage, the ends being bent into the interior of the envelop, and means for securing the ends fixed within the envelop.
3. An envelop of the class described having the ends of its openin slit along each edge, the endsbeing bent 1nward1y,.a strip of resilient material embraced by the bent portion of the edges and secured therein by mucilage, the ends being bent into the interior of the envelop, and metallic clips for securing the bent portions of the edge in the interior of the envelop.
In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand in the presence of two witnesses.
REGIS ROY.
