PAS TENING-PIN.
fl; all (r/low m1]; concern:
Be it known that l, Roman E. MCGUIRE, a citizen of the l nited States, residing at Anaconda. in. the coun of Deerlodge and i-itate of limitana, ha invented certain new and useful lin iirovenients in. llastening-Pins, of which the following is a specification, reference being had to the accompanying drawings.
This invention relates to certain new and useful iinproven'ients in fastening pins and more particularly to a pin of this character adapted to he used on clevises and is provided with means wherchy no matter what the tastening pin will he securely held against withdrawz-il. Another object oi the present invention is the provision of a device of the above char acter which will possess advantages in points of efficiency and durability, is inexpensive to manufacture and, at the same time, is simple in construction and operation.
li ith the ahove and other objects in view, the invention consists in the novel features of construction, combination and arrangement of parts as will be hereinafter referred to and more particularly pointed out in the specification and claims.
la the accompanying drawing forminga art of this a 'ipfcation, Figure 1 is a View El elevation of a l astening pin conactcd in accordance with my invention, 3 .ustrating the application of the same. 2 is a sectional view illustrating the jn'ianner of arranging the pintles as herein embodied when it desired to insert or idraw the pin Worn applied position; is a detail ectu view illustrating he position oi the pintlc when the pin is .2": vertical position; and l 4- is a detail 'ional view illustrating the positions of pintles when the @111 is a orir iontal applied to a c" tening pin includes an o lindricai in cross section and provided one end with a head 2 which may he of any desired form. The outer end of the pin illustrated, is bifurcated to form spaced 1: extencling 'ansversely tin'ougl'i these and across the space therehe- Specification of Letters Patent.
llatenteol Bee, as, 19 1 pivot pin so that one end portion of the' pintle or key is substantially longer than the other end, while the pintle or key 6 is mounted at its longitudinal center upon the pivot pin with its opposite end portions of a length substantially equal to'the length of the shorter end portion of the key 5, so that no matter what position the fastening pin 1 assumes, the longer end oi the pintle will drop down. l t will also be noted. that the opening through the pintlo (3 iselongated and disposed transversely of the pintle so that when the body 1 is disposed a horizontal position, as disclosed in Fig. 4, the pintle (3 will automatically assume the horixontal position. Thus, as shown in 3, when the fastening pin 1 is disposed in a vertical position the longer end of the locking pintle will cause the same to drop and he disposed in parallel relation with the arms but, on the other hand, the locking .pintle i will be arranged transversely across the bifurcation oi the Fastening pin and en- 1 go the side of the obiect to which the pin is applied to nevcnt the withdrawal or re moval of the pin.
In Fig. 4c the pin is shown as disposed in a horizontal plane and, in this view the locle ing pintle (5 is disposed parallel with the arm 3, while the pintle 5 is arranged transversely across the opening in which the pin is mounted to prevent the IiOH'IOYlll oi the same. Thus, it will he apparent that no n'iatter what position the lastening pin 1 assumes, one or the other oil the locking pintles 5 and 3 will he c" :rsely across the opening in which V mounted, but it will he seen ih the .i filing pin .1 can he quickly and u r L p neved from any device to which a ied by arranging the hacking pintlcs and in lozrmudinal alincment with the dy 0 will be disposed dire arms From the above description taker, in connecooa with. the accompanying drawing, it
- can be quickly and .is preferable to have the same applied to use wherein it is desired to have a pin which readily inserted or withdrawn. It is preferred, however, to use the same on clevises, for the well known clevis pm in use at the present ,time.
- My improved device, as herein shown and described, 1s extremely simple in construction and can be manufactured and placed upon'the market at cost.
While I have shown and described the preferred form of my invention, it will be obvious that various changes in the details comparatively low of construction and in the proportions may invention into practice,
be resorted to for successfully carryin my without sacri cing any of the novel features or departing from the scope of the inventiomas defined by the aplplended claims.
aving thus described this invention,
what I desire to claim and secure by Letters Patent is J 1. As a new article. of manufacture, a fastening pin bifurcated at one extremit locking pintles pivotally mounted within the bifurcated portion of the pin and normally disposed in angular relation to each other, said. pintles being capable of independent 40 movement.
2. As a new article of manufacture, a fastening pin bifurcated at one extremity, locking pintles pivotally mounted within the bi-' furcated portion of the pin and normally disposed in angular relation to each other,
'said pintles being capable of independent gravital mo'vement.
3. As a new article of manufacture, a fastening pin having one end portion bifurcated, a pivot pin intersecting the kerf of the bifurcated end portion, locking pintles rotatably supported by the pivot pin-and independently movable therearound, one of said pintles being provided with a trans- 55 versely disposed elongated opening through which the pivot pin is disposed,
In testimony whereof I hereunto afiix my signature in the presence of two witnesses.
