WILLIAM MARTIN MeCULLAR, OF ALLENVILLE, ILLINOIS.
COUPLING LINK.
Application filed April 27, 1927. Serial No. 186,985.
The present invention relates to coupling links designed in general for the various usages for which coupling or lap links are commonly employed, an important object of the invention being to provide a coupling link which possesses maximum strength and durability, is adapted 'to be used without liability of the movable members casually opening and permitting separation of the coupling elements and which is inexpensive in construction, and requires a comparatively small amount of fine machinery in manufacture.
W'ith the above and numerous other objects in view as will appear as the description proceeds, the invention resides in certain novel features of construction, and in the combination and arrangement of parts as will be hereinafter more fully described and claimed.
In the drawing: 7 a
Figure 1 is a side elevation of the link embodying the features of my invention,
Figure 2 is an edge elevation thereof,
Figure 3 is a sectional view therethrough taken substantially on the line 33 of Fig ure 1. a
Referring to the drawing in detail it will be seen that the letter A denotes one section and the letter B the other section. The sec tion A comprises a body portion 5 having one part thereof reduced as at 6 to be substantially offset and merging into a curved extremity T terminating in a point 8, said curved portion being somewhatU-shaped in formation. The other end of the body a; merges into a similar curved portion 9 except that the extremity is bifurcated to form a pair of apertured ears 10. The section B is substantially U-shaped to provide a bight 11 having a short leg 12 terminating in a point 13 and a long leg 14 having its extremity pivoted between the ears 10 by means of a rivet, pin, or the like 15, merging into a curved stop finger 16 to engage the curved end are limit the movement of the sections in one direction.
It will be seen that when this coupling link is engaged with otherlinks or other I devices that'it cannot accidentally come open because of the location of the leg 12 with respect to the reduced portion of the body 5 and the similar association ,of the end 7 with the leg'lt of the section B. The stop finger 16 will also be engaged by link or other device engaged with this link and will tend to prevent the opening of the section.
It is thought that the construction, utility, and advantages ofthis link will now be quite apparent to those skilled in this art without a more detailed description thereof. The present embodiment of the invention has been disclosed in detail merely by way of example since in actual practice it attains the features of advantage enumerated as desirable in the statement of the invention and the above description. It will be apparent that changes in the details of construction may be resorted to without departing from the spirit or scope of the invention as hereinafter'claimed or sacrificing any of its advantages.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new is:
A coupling link of the class described comprising a pair of sections, one of said sections comprising a straight body portion having ends curved thereover toward each other, one of said ends being reduced and terminating in apoint, and the other end terminating in a pair of spaced earsone to each side of and in parallelism with the general plane of said one section, the other section coi'nprlsing a substantially U-shaped formation having a bight, a short leg and a long log, the extremity of the long leg being disposed between the ears and merging into a curved stop finger to engage one curved end of the first section which is provided with the spaced ears, and a pin extending through openings in the ears and an openings in the extremity of the long leg for pivoting the sections together so that they will swing in only a single plane.
In testimony whereof I afiix my signature.
ILLIAM MARTIN MGCULLAR.
