WIRE-ROPE CONNECTION.
Application filed August 18, 1924.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, EMIL JoRGnNsnN, a
citizen of the United States, residing at Stillwater, in the Province of British Columbia, Canada, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Wire-Rope Connections, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to a means for removably connecting one wire r0 e to another and is of that class where t e end of one rope is provided with a thimbled enlargement, and the other with a member having a key-hole aperture through the larger part of which the enlarged end of the rope may be passed, which enlarged end will be retained in the smaller dimension of the aperture.
The improvements are directed to the particular construction of the key-holed member whereby a simple, strong and efiicient connection is provided from which the rope may not be accidentally released.
The invention is particularly described in the following specification, reference being made to the drawings by which it is accompanied, in which:

The device comprises a closed triangular loop, the sides 2, 3, 4 of which are substantially rectangular in cross section. The apex of this loop has an eye 5 for connection of one of the ropes to it by a link or shackle.
One side 3 of this loop is laterally enlarged and is provided with an aperture 6 to receive the thimbled enlargement 7 of the other rope 8 when the same is presented endwise.
The axis of the aperture 6 may be normal to the face of 3 or be directed angularly downward, as shown in the drawings.
From the lower end of this aperture 6 a slot 9, adapted to receive the rope 8 but to retain its thimbled enlargement 7, is carried down the lower part of the side 3 to the centre of the basetthat the rope 8 may pass to a position where it is in axial alignserial No. 732,742.

The thimbled enlargement 7 may thus be passed endwise into 6 and its rope 8 be turned down to the position shown in Fig. 2 where the enlargement 7 is effectively retained by the sides and end of the slot 9.
The connection is simple to manufacture, is strong in the disposition of the metal to resist strain and will oppose accidental release. In any backward movement of the rope 8 the upper end of the enlargement 7 will engage the inner upper corner of the aperture 6 and, see dot and dash lines in Fig. 2, the resistance being on the apertured side only, the rope will bend to the side which is not provided with a slot, so that the rope cannot become accidentally released.
Where the device is made of cast steel, the open sides of the loop, as shown in Figs. 2 and 3, may be closed, as at 10 as in Fig. 1. Having now particularly described my invention, I hereby declare that what I claim as new and desire to be protected in by Letters Patent, is:
1. A means for releasably connecting a wire rope to another rope, said means comprising the combination with a rope having a thimbled enlargement at its end, of a substantially triangular member adapted to be connected at its apex to said other rope, said member having an aperture in one of its sides adapted to admit said thimbled enlargement when presented endwise, and a slot extending from the aperture to the centre of the base of the triangular member the width of the slot being adapted to pass said first mentioned rope but to retain the enlargement.
2. A. means for releasably connecting a wire rope to another rope, said means comprising the combination with a rope having a thimbled enlargement at its end, of a substantially triangular member adapted to be connected at its apex to said other rope, said loop having an aperture in one of its sides adapted to pass the enlargement of said wire rope when presented endwise, the axis of which aperture is angularly directed down-' ward toward the base of the loop, and a slot extending from the aperture to the centre of the base of the triangle, the width of the slot being adapted to pass the said wire rope but to retain the enlargement.
8. A means for releasably connecting a Wire rope to .another rope, said means comprising the (combination with a rope having a thimblecl enlargement at its end, of a substantially triangular member having at lts apex an eye adapted for connection to an other rope, said member having an aperture in one of its sides acla ted to admit 'saicl thimbled enlargement W 1en presented end- Wise, and a slot extending from the aperture to .the center of the baseof the triangular member, the Width of the slot being adapted to pass the rope which has the thinlbled enlargementbut to retain the enlargement.
