. Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Nov. 2%, mm.
To all whom, it may concern:
Be it known that I, EDMUND HOFFMAN, a citizen of the United States, residing in Brooklyn, in the county of Kings and State of New York, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Sifter-Containers, of
which the following is a specification.
This invention relates in general to containers for talcum powder and the like and has for its principal object the provision of a Sifter talcum powder box particularly adapted for the use of travelers and others desiring to pack the container with other an ticles in a grip, handbag, etc.
A further object of the invention is the provision of such a container in which a chamois or powder-pufi maybe packed and yet retained in smooth and unwrinkled condition.
A still further object of the invention is the provision of a container of this type in which the perforations of the sifter portion of the container will be closed effectively by such a chamois or powder pufi'.
Other objects and advantages of the invention will be apparent as it is better understood from the following description when considered in connection with the accompanying drawing illustrating a preferred embodiment thereof.
Referring to the drawings, Figure 1 is a perspective of the auxiliary cover with which the container embodylng my invention is provided; Fig. 2 is a similar view of the container body; and Fig. 3 is a vertical section taken centrally through the container with the parts assembled.
0n the drawings it will be noted that for the purpose of illustrating this invention 1 have shown it as comprising a body 18 having a Sifter portion A in its top and an auxiliary cover C. The body 13 consists off-the upper and lower'parts 5 and 6 trictionally held together by overlapping flanges 7 and 8, theflange 7 on the lower part tightly embracing the downwardly extending flange 8 on the upper. A bead 9 extending inwardl is provided an appropriate height to limit inward movement of the upper portion. The upper portion 6 1 =1 ds an appreciable distance above the upper edge of the lower portion 5 and is curved upwardly at its center as at 10 to dome-shape form. The up per portion of this dome is provided with perforations 11 which are adapted to be closed by a perforated slide 12 suitably pivoted beneath the upper portion and having a finger piece 13 extending through a suitable slot 14 in position to be engaged by the user to bring the apertures in the'slide into registration with the apertures in the dome to permit pouring of the powder.
The auxiliary cover C is domed at its center at 15 in parallelism with the doming 10 of the upper portion 6 of the body and carries a downwardly extending flange '16 adapted to frictionally engage the outer surface of so much of the upper portion as is disposed above the edge or flange 7 of the lower portion of the body. This arrangement provides a recess betwen the auxiliary cover and the body, bounded. by substantially parallel planes in which a piece of chamois may be held in flat condition. These parts may if desired be so constructed and arranged that the cover will cause the Chamois to press upon the perforations in the dome and close them if the slide be in open position. The whole device is oi simple and cheaply provided parts. It is pleasing in appearance and may be easily operated.
It is thought that the invention and many of its attendant advantages will be understood from the foregoing description, and it will be apparent that various changes may be made in the form, construction and arrangement of the parts without departing from the spirit and scope of the invention or sacrificing any of its material advantages, the form hereinbefore described being merely a preferred embodiment thereof.
1 claim:
A powder container and sitter comprising a body having an upstanding side flange and adomed top havlng a depending flange which is tightly embraced within said upstanding side flange ot the body, said domed top being perforated and fitted on the under side with a correspondingly perforated rotary closure, the latter having a finger piece a puff on and above the perforated part of extendiilig through 1 the sald domed top; and said domed top.
an auxi iary cover ormed with a depending side flange which has a slip engagement EDMUND HOFFMAN around and without the depending flange of Witnesses:
said domed top and opposing the upstanding D. F. MENNIS,
flange of the body, and leaving a space for W. D. FOSTER.
