Application filed April 17, 1916. Serial No. 91,775.
Yb (d whom 625 may concern:
to it known that 1, JOHN liixltnnnooo, a citizen of the United States, residing at Bate Greek, county of Calhoun, State oi .higan, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Abdominal Supports, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to improvements in abdominal supports.
ho main objects of this invention are: to provide an improved abdominal support adapted for the supporting of the lower abdominal muscles, which is effective 1; as support and at the same time is comfortable for the wearer. Second, to provide an abdominal support having these advanwhich can be readily shaped or adjusted to meet the requirements or conditions or the wearer. Third, to provide an imiroved abdominal support having these advantages which is simple and economical in "lC'ilUlfi.
Further objects, and objects relating to ictural details, will definitely appear om the detailed description. to follow.
it accomplish the objects of my invention by the devices and means described in the following specification.
The invention is clearly pointed out in. the claims.
7 it. structure which is a preferred embodiment of my invention is clearly illustrated in e accompanying drawing, forming a part this specification, in which:
l igure l is a front perspective view of my improved abdominal support. Fig. H is a detail horizontal view on a line corresponding to line Q2 of Fig. I. Fig. H1 is a dein tail view oi the :tront end of one of the body attaching or support members, showthe hmgitudinal twist in the blade s ing member. Fig. 1V is a. front perspective view of the pad of the support illustrating the possible torsional or twisting moveinent between the parts or halves of the pad.
Fig. V is a detail section showing the relation of the attaching stud to the pad memlj ors and of the support to the stud. Fig. Vl
defined and at a plan view of the outer back casing mem-- in the drawing similar reference characters refer to similar parts throughout the several views, and the sectional views are taken looking in the direction of the little arrows at the ends of the section lines; I Referring to the drawing, the body of my improved abdominal support comprises a air of plates 1, preferably formed of bendable metal, that is, metal which will permit bending of the plates within the pad so as to' conform them to the requirements of the wearer. These plates 1 are supported in a spaced relation by the casing back members 2 and 3 formed of leather, these casing members being of the shape and size of the pad. The plates are supported in their desired relative positions within the. pad by rows of stitching elaround the edges of the plates. The back members form a hinge or flexible connection between the plates so that theymay adjust themselves or may be adjusted relative to each other. The plates are also preferably spaced a substantial distance apart so as to permit a relative twisting or torsional movement between them. The back members have a dart 5 extending from their upper edge downwardly between the plates, the dart being formed by cutting out portions of the back members at Grand stitch- This gives an inmg the edges together. wardly dished shape to the upper portion of the pad. v v 1 The plates 1' are oval in shape and disposed with their small ends downwardly.
The front casing member 7 and the edges of the back casing members are stitched together by the'row of stitches 8. A. suitable filling 9 is disposed within the casin With the parts thus arranged the pad may. be
ends, the pads being. adapted to rest against screws 14, the member s of holes 18 adapted to receive the screws The front ends 19 of the members 11 are given a so they studs as shown in Fig. V, the upper edges of the slots 12 engaging the upper sides of the studs and the lower edges of the springs bearing against the pad. This supports the pad with an upwardly and inwardly twisting action, the object being to secure an inward and upward pressure on the'lower end" of the pad as well the general inward 1. In an abdominal supporter, the combination-of a pad comprising a pair of oval plates of metal bendable to permit conforming within the pad, a pair of casing back members between whichsaid plates are disposed in a spaced relationwith their small ends downward, said back members being stitched together around the edges of the plates, there being a dart extending irom the 7 upper edge ot'said back members centrally between said plates providing an inward dish to the upper edge of the pad, said back members constituting a flexible connection between said plates, said plates being spaced to permit limited relative torsional movement between the halves of the pad, a front casing member stitched at its edges to the edges of said back members, there being a filling between said frontand back members, substantially spaced permitting torsion l 1.? till?- studs mounted centrally of said plates, and body attaching members comprising curved blade springs provided with pads at their rear ends adapted to rest against the back of the wearer and having lrey hole slots at their front ends adapted to engage said studs,-isaid springs being twisted at their front ends sothat they engage the studs with an inward and upwarc listing action.
2. ln an abdominal s orter, the combination of'a pad compris a pair of oval plates, a pair or" casing back members between whichsaid plates disposed in spaced relation with their small ends downward, said baclr members being stitched together around the edges of the plates, said back me nbers constituting flexible connection'between said'plates, said plates being spaced to permit limited relative torsional een the halves be: to he edges of said bacl: mem ers, there ing a filling between said front and back members, studs mounted cen lly s plates, and body attachi g coi s ing curved blade springs provided with pads at their rear ends adapted to rest against the back of the wearer slots at their front ends adapted said studs, said springs being t their front ends so on e studs with an inward upward action. a
8. in an abdominal supporter, the combination of a pad comprising a pair of oval plates of metal bendable to permit conform ing within the pad, a pair of casing baclr members between which said posed in aspaced relation with their sm i ends downward, said back members being stitched together around the edges of the,
plates, there being a dartezrtending'from the upper edge of said back members centrallv a between said plates providin an inwarl D dish to the upper edge or the pad, said back members constituting a hinge connection'be plates aredisr tween said plates, said plates being to permit limited relative torsional mo' nement between the halves of the casing member stitched edges to the edges of said backimembers, there be g pad, afront filling between said front and baclr memb i I i and curved resilient body attaching connected centrally to said plate. 1 4, in an abdominal supporter, the coir oination of .a pad 'con'iprising a pair of oval plates, a pair oil casing back members be- M tween which said plates are disposed in a spaced relation with their small ends dow ward, said back members being gether around back members constituting a hinge conneo .tion between said plates, said plates be back mem ers, and curved resilient body atstitchedt the edges of the plates,
taching members connected centrally to said.
plates.
, 5. ln an abdominal supporter, the combination of a pad comprisinga pair or" plates, a. pair. of casing back members between which said platesare disposed in a spaced relation, said baclr members being stitched together around the edges of the plates, said back members constituting a flexible connection between said plates, a front casing member stitched at its edges to the edges of said back members, there being a filling e tween a filling between said "front 3 said front and hack members, studs mounted irenii'ziliy of said plates, and body attaching ineinhei's comprising curved blade springs provided with pads at their rear ends adapted to rest against the hack of the wearerand having he)" hnle slots at their front ends adapted to engage said studs, said springs being twisted at their front ends so that they [In s]
