IMPROVEMENT IN MUFF-TASSELS.

Specification forming part of Letters Patent No.120,487, dated October 31, 1871.

To all whom t may concern:

Be it known that I, SAMUEL BRoDY, of the city, county, and State of New York, have invented and made an Improvement in Muff-Tassels; and the following is declared to be a correct description thereof.

The tassels that are employed at the ends of ladies muifs are usually attached permanently7 to a cord that is inserted in a hem at the end of the muff opening, said cord surrounding the opening and sewed into the end lining before it is inserted in the muff. This style of attachment is illustrated in Figure l of the drawing, which shows the tassel and cord in full lines and the lining and muff in dotted outlines.

There are several disadvantages in this manner of attaching the tassels: First, the tassels .y have to be purchased early in the season. Second, they are exposed to injury, and become soiled during the lining of the muff, and the brushing, combing, and beating of the fur from the time of manufacture until sold. Third, the tassels are handled and injured in exhibiting the goods. Fourth, they are in the way and become injured when goods are packed awa-y from one season to the next. Fifth, there is no opportunity to change the tassels, where the muff suits the purchaser and the tassels do not, without changing the lining as well. Sixth, the tassels, being permanent, cannot be removed in snowy or rainy weather, and become injured.

My invention ismade for removing all the aforesaid difficulties; and consists in a muff-tassel with a loop and button, to be attached to a cord or elastic surrounding the opening of the muff by passing the loop around such cord or attachment on the muff and then buttoning the saine by passing the loop over the button, thereby securing the tassel in a very firm manner, and allowing it to be removed with facility, so that the tassels can be kept separate from the muff until the muff is sold, and the purchaser can take oif or put on the said tassels with facility so as to prevent injury when packed away, when being cleaned, or when in use.

In Fig. 2 of the drawing, the tassel d, of any desired size or form, is shown with a button, e, at the upper end, behind which the ends of the flexible loop i are attached. This loop is to be passed in through the opening at Z, and around the cord m that is made as a ixture in the hem of the lining, and then by passing the loop t' over the button e the tassel is eii'ectually secured in place, but can be removed whenever desired. The loop i and cord m may be elastic, if desired.

I claim as my invention- The removable muiitassel provided with the button and loop, as and for the purposes set forth.
