ANDREW H. WOODRUFF, OF LANSING, IOWA.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 120,475, dated October 31,1871.
To all 'whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ANDREW H. WOODRUFF, of Lansing, in the county of All ainakee and State of Iowa, have invented a new and useful Iniproveinent in Pipe-Wrench Attachment for Monkey-Wrenches; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and eXact description thereof, which will enable others skilled in the art to make and use the saine, reference being had to the accompanying drawing forming part of this specication, in which- Figure l is a side view of my improved attachment, part being broken away to show the construction, and showing in dotted lines the jaws of a monkey-Wrench. Fig. 2 is a face view of the same.

My invention has for its object to furnish an iinproved attachment for monkey-wrenches, which shall be simple in construction, may be conveniently attached to either jaw of an ordinary monkey-wrench, and which shall be effective in operation; and it consists in the device constructed as hereinafter more fully described.
A is the wedge-shaped block, of steel, which has teeth formed upon its inclined side or face,
and which is pivoted to and between the outer ends of two spring-bars, B. The bars B have shoulders b formed upon the inner sides o f their rear ends, said bars B being,1 made of such a length that the shank of a monkey-wrench may be received and may lit between the rear end of the block A and the said shoulders b. The rear ends ot the bars B, upon their inner sides, are made inclined or are beveled off, as shown in Fig. 2, for convenience in applying theln to the shank ofthe monkey-wrench.
The device can be applied with equal facility to either jaw of the wrench. This construction enables the wrench to be conveniently used for screwing;` the pipe either on or off in places where the wrench can be moved only in one direction.
Having,` thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- The toothed block A and spring shouldered bars B b', in combination with each other, to adapt them for attachment to an ordinary monkey-wrench, substantially as herein shown and described, and for the purpose set forth.
