Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Nov. *7, 1916.
App1ication filed .Tune 11, 1915. Serial No. 33,607.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that we, Ovmn Limro'rnn and GEORGE LAE-IO'iHE, both subjects of the King of Great Britain, and residents in the city of Montreal, in the Province of Quebec, Canada, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Sanitary Toothpick- Holders; and we do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the same.
The invention relates to improvements in sanitary tooth-pick holders and the object is to devise a holder in which the toothpicks will be taken out automatically one at a time therefore preserving them from being soiled or handled uncarefully, as they are when in an ordinary holder.
The invention consists in a receptacle and a cover therefor, of a slot in one of its sides, a deflecting plate extending through said slot in the side of the casing, of a rocker having an inward dent projecting just above said deflecting plate, a handle to rock said rocker and a spring to hold back said rocker in its primary position.
In the drawings, Figure 1 is a perspective view of the holder. Fi 2 is a cross sectional view through the holder.
Like numerals of reference indicate corresponding parts in each figure.
Referring to the drawings, 1 is the casing or holder, preferably consisting of a metal box having the swinging cover 2, pivoted at 3.
3 is a transverse slot in one side of the casing 1 and a is a perpendicular slot intermediate of the length and downwardly extending from said slot 3.
5 is a deflecting plate or slide within the sides of the casing 1 out-wardly projecting through the transverse slot 3 and having the upturned end 6 and the cut out corner 7. The said plate 5 is supported by the braces 8, and 9 is a slot intermediate of its width; and near the upturned end 6.
10 is a plate to which is secured the lower end of the supporting braces 8 and 11 are brackets projecting from said plate 10 and secured thereto.
12 is a rocker having at its lower side, the projecting portion 13 pivotally secured to the brackets 11, and at its upper side the inward dent 14 slightly projecting through the slot 9 and 15 is the operating handle projecting through the perpendicular slot 1.
16 is a spring secured at one end to the plate 10 and at the other end to the rocker 12.
In the operation of the invention, the casing or receptacle 1 must first be filled with tooth-picks, placed parallel to the transverse slot 8 The handle 15 is then pressed clownwardly. The action of pressing the rocker handle pulls one of the tooth-picks by means of the dent 14 on the rocker 12. The toothpick slides on the outwardly projecting end of the deflecting plate 5, a portion of the tooth-pick resting against the upturned end 6, the other end projecting over the cut out portion 7 of the plate 5, in order that it may be removed easily.
The form of tooth-pick holder disclosed in the drawings may be altered without departing from the scope of the claims for novelty following.
hat we claim is In a sanitary tooth-pick holder, in combination, a casing having a cover, a transverse slot in one side of said casing in the lower part thereof, a perpendicular slot intermediate of the length. and downwardly extending from said transverse slot, a deflecting plate within said casing projecting outwardly through the said transverse slot and upturned so as to form a receiving plate, a portion of said plate being cut out, means to support said deflecting plate, a slot in said plate, a rocker pivotally mounted at one end in suitable bearings in the casing and a dent in its upper part, said upper portion of the rocker slightly projecting through said slot in the deflecting plate, a spring secured to said rocker at one on l, the other end being rigid to the casing and a handle or arm projecting from said rocker to operate same.
Signed at Montreal, Quebec, Canada, this 16th day of March, 1915 OVIDE LAMOTHE. GEORGE LAMOTHE. Witnesses:
