UNITED STATES FERDINAND A. KITTELL, OF HOLLIDAYSBURG, PENNSYLVANIA.
COLLECTION-BOX.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 383,579, dated May 29, 1888. Application filed February 24, 1888. Serial No. 265,124. (No model.)
To al whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, FERDINAND A. KITTELL,
of Hollidaysburg, in the county of Blair and State of Pennsylvania, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Collection-Boxes, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description. i
This invention relates to an improvement in collection-boxes for taking up contributions of money and the like in churches and other places; and the object of the improvement is to provide for the inspection of each deposit made in the boxseparately, so that the amount and character of such deposit may be easily determined bythe person carrying the box.
The invention consists of certain novel features of construction and combinations of parts, hereinafter fully described, and distinctly pointed out in the claims.
Reference is to be had to the accompanying flexible fabric sleeve, D, connecting the bottom of the rim, so as to form a pendent receptacle for the deposited contributions. The rim B is provided, in addition, with a tilting false bottom, E, adapted normally toclose the under side of the rim, so as to temporarily receive and hold the deposited contribution for inspection, but, when tilted, to discharge the contribution into the main bottom 0, so that the next deposit can be likewise received and examined by itself.
The false bottom E is provided with a sleeve, F, on its bottom, through which is passed loosely a pivot-rod, G, mounted to turn at its ends in opposite sides of the rim B, and is secured removably in the sleeve F by a setscrew, G,
The rod G is extended at one end and is fixed securely in the end of a handle, H,which thus serves for supporting the pendent body of the box, and also, when turned, to tilt the false bottom and discharge the deposit upon the lower bottom, as before stated.
On loosening the set-screw G the rod G, with the handle, may be readily withdrawn from the rim and sleeve F, and the false bot tom also removed from the box.
The two bottoms are preferably covered with chamois, as shown, to deaden the sound of the deposited coin.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
l. Acollection-box provided with an upper tilting bottom,a-lower botto1n,and arotary supporting-handle adapted to upset the tilting bottom, substantially as described.
2. In a collection-box, the combinatiomwith a pendent box-body having a main bottom, of a rotary supporting-handle mounted transversely in the body above its bottom, and a movable false bottom in the body above the main bottom, adapted to be moved by the rotary handle, so as to discharge upon the lower FERDINAND A. KITTELL.
