NICHOLAS G. ABBATE, OF BALTIMORE, MARYLAND.
COMB.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, NICHOLAS G. Anna're, a citizen of the United States, residing at Baltimore, in the State of Maryland, have invented certain new and useful improve-- ments in Combs, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to improvements in combs, and one obj eet of the invention is the provision of a comb which may be used in the ordinary manner for combing the hair, and which will be provided with means for supplying a perfume or liquid to the hair simultaneous with'the operation of combing the hair.
Another object of my invention is the provision of a comb which can be made of any character of material, which will be of ornamental and attractive appearance, and compact and srrrzjl in size, and which can be manufactured'at a price small enough to make it practical and desirable.
With these objects in view, my invention consists of a comb of the character and for the purposes stated, embodying novel features of construction and combination of parts for service, substantially as disclosed herein.
Figure 1 represents a side elevation of the complete comb constructed in accordance with and embodying my invention. Fig. 2 represents a view partly in elevation and partly in section, to illustrate the location,
and arrangement of the reservoir with reference to certain of the teeth of the comb. Fig. 3 represents a similar view of the frame of the comb with the teeth removed and the reservoir in normal position or out of use. Fig. 4: represents a sectional view taken on line 4-4 of Fig. 1. Fig. 5 represents detailed views of one of the large teeth used in my comb. Fig. 6 represents detailed views of one of the smaller teeth used in my comb, and Fig. 7 represents a view of one end of my comb.
The body or frame of the comb comprises the hollow back portion A, which back is formed with the reduced or restricted lower portion B, and carries the end tine or tooth C, and to the open portion or end l) of the back is fitted the cap E, having a filling opening E which registers with the opening A, in the hollow back, and said openings FF and A are adap ed to register with the opening F, when the tube L is revolved one Specification of Letters Patent.

half a revolution from position shown in B 1g. 2 for filling. Said opening Fr receives a screw cap G, and is also formed with the end tooth H, and has fitted in a threaded opening adjacent said tooth the binding or clamping screw J. The cap E is also provided with a slot E. From this construction it will be observed that the frame of the comb consists of the back portion formed with a tooth and a cap fitting on said back portion and formed with the other tooth, the back being hollow to provide the chain ber K, and in said chamber is fitted the tube L, which provides a reservoir which at one end is provided with a stem M, passing through the cap and carrying a button or handle M, adapted to lock with slot E and for turning said tube to bring the discharge openings N, thereof, into position to discharge or feed the water or perfume into the spaces 0, between the beveled or curved heads P, formed upon the series of heavy or large teeth Q. The smaller teeth R. being also formed with fiat heads R, which as also the heads P of the large teeth are shaped to fit in the restricted or reduced portion T3, and be retained in place by the clamping screw J, as clearly shown in.-'Fig. 2. From this COTIFLIUCiZiOIl it will be observed that the teeth have their heads fitted and clamped in theredueed portion B, of the back of the comb, and that the'tube is turned by the handle to bring the discharge openings thereof into position to Feed the water or liquid only between the large teeth, thus while the operation of combing is being performed the liquid is also supplied to the hair, thus producing a useful and desirable article.
l claim:
'l. The comb herein described. consisting of a hollow back portion having an integral tooth at one end and a threaded lilling opening at its other end. a series of teeth mounted in said back portion. a cap l'ormed with a tooth and fitting upon said back portion and having a threaded opening in line With the filling opening of the bark portion. a threaded plug for closing the said openings of the cap and back. and for securing the parts together. a reservoir mounted in the baclc having a filling opening. and a series of discharge openings and having means extending through said cap for turning the reservoir, said filling opening of the reserroir being adapted to register with the filling openings of the bank and cap for sup plying said reservoir.
2. The comb herein described, consisting of a hollow back portion having an integral tooth at one end and a threaded filling opening at-its other end, a series of teeth mounted in said back portion, a cap formed with a tooth and fitting upon said back portion.
and having a threadedopening in line with the filling opening of the back portion, a threaded plug for closing the said openings g 7 0L the cap ,and back and for securing the parts together, a reservoir mounted 1n the back htVllfl a filhn 0 enlng and a series a: U7 Y In testimony whereof I my signature 25 in presence'of two Witnesses.
