SHADE-ROLLER.
Specification of Letters Patent.l
' Patented Oct. 31, 1916.
Application led November 8, 1915. Serial No. 60,374.
To all whom t may concern:
Be it known that I, FRANK BAKER, a citizen of the United States, residing at Sta-mbaugh, in the county of Iron, State of Michigan, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Shade-Rollers; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to improvements in shade rollers, and particularly to the supporting brackets therefor.
The principal object of the invention is to provide a shade roller which carries the brackets and which latter can be quickly and securely engaged with the sides of a window frame to properly hold the roller in position.-
.Another object is to provide resiliently held brackets carried by shade rollers which can be quickly and easily applied to or removed from a window frame.
Other objects and advantages will be apparent from the following description when taken in connection with the accompanying drawing.
In the drawing: Figure 1 is an elevation of my improved sha de roller in position in a window frame; Fig. 2 is a horizontal section on the line 2 2 of Fig. 1; Fig. 3 is an end view of the roller showing one of the brackets; and Fig. 4 is a view from the opposite end of the roller.
Referring particularly to the accompanying drawing, 1.0 represents the sides of the window frame, and 11 the heading thereof. The roller 12 may be formed of any suitable material, as wood, metal or the like.
Extending longitudinally in the roller is a metal rod 13, the outer end being notched as at 14, to receive the pawls 15 carried by the end disk 16. A spring 12 encircles the rod, and has one end secured to the roller and the other end to the rod. A metal tube 17 is fitted snugly in the roller and has fitted in one end an apertured plug 18 receiving the rod therethrough. Disposed in the tube and secured to the inner end of the rod is a block 19 which bears against the inner end of a coil spring 20. The outer end of the spring bears against a rigidly held block 21 disposed in theadjacent end of the metal tube. To this block 21 is secured the inner end of the pintle 22 of the roller. Pivotally connected to the outer end of the pintle 22 1s a plate 23 having on its outer face a pair of spurs 24 for penetration into the face of the side of the window frame.
Rigidly mounted on the outer or projecting end of the rod 13 is a plate 25 also provided on its outer face with the spurs 26. Extending from the opposite sides of the plate are the curved finger pieces 27 which are adapted to be grasped by two fingers of the hand when the shade roller is to be placed in position in the window frame.
In the operation of the device, the plate 23 is placed against one side of the window frame and then the finger pieces 27 grasped. The shade roller is then pushed against the frame toward the plate 23 which pushes the rod 13 inwardly against the tension of the spring 20. The end of the shade roller which carries the plate 25 is then swung inwardly and the plate 25 pressed inwardly toward the end of the roller, which further compresses the spring 20, after which the said plate 25 is permitted to engage the inner face of the adjacent side of the window frame. The spring 20 will cause the spurs to be driven into the faces of the sides of the frame and the shade roller properly supported thereon. By the same operation the shade roller can be quickly disengaged from j the window frame.
What is claimed is:
A shade roller supporting device comprising a shade roller having sockets in its opposite ends, spring-pressed pins mounted in the sockets, a plate pivotally mounted on one of the pins and provided with spurs for engagement with one inner vertical face of the window frame, and a plate rigidly carried by the other pin and formed with spurs for engagement with the other inner vertical face of the window frame, said lastnamed plate having laterally extending curved finger pieces.
In testimony whereof, I aiiix my signature, in the presence oftwo witnesses.
FRANK BAKER.
