Description

K. W. BARRAGER. ADJUSTABLE SHADE ROLLER HANGER.
APPLICATLON FILED JUNE 16. I914.
1,144,283. Patented June 22, 1915.
THE NORRIS PETERS CO.. PHOTO-LITHO, WASHINGTON. D. C,
KENNETH BARRAGER, OF ATLANTIC HIGHLANDS, NEW JERSEY.
ADJUSTABLE SHADE-ROLLER HANGER.
To all whom it may concern Be it .known that I, KENNETH W. BAR- RAGER, a citizen of the United States, residing at Atlantic Highlands, in the county of Monmouth and State of New Jersey, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Adjustable Shade-Roller Hangers; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, suchas will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention comprehends certain new and useful improvements in shade roller hangers and has for its primary object to provide a device of this character which will be adjustable and of extremely simple construction and operation as well as cheap to manufacture and easy to secure in position.
Another object of the invention is to provide a device of thischaracter which will be of such construction that it may be readily adjusted to windows of various widths and the supports for the opposite ends of the shade roller adjusted upon the sectional body of the device, to properly support the shade roller.
This invention has for a further object to provide a device of this character which will be constructed in such manner that the parts will be resiliently retained in a'djusted position thereby assuring the shade thereof being properly held in suspended position and also preventing disengagement of the sections of the body of the device from the window frame.
With these and other objects in view as will become more apparent as the description proceeds, the invention consists in oer-i tain novel features of construction, combination and arrangement of parts as will be hereinafter more fully described and claimed.
For a complete understanding of my invention, reference is to be had to the following description and accompanying drawings, in which Figure 1 is a front elevation of the complete device in use, Fig. 2 is a longitudinal section through the device removed, with one end thereof broken away, Fig. 3 is a detail perspective view of the outer end of one of the sections of the body, Fig. A is a detail perspective view of one of the hade Specification of Letters Patent.

roller supports, and Fig. 5 is a similar view of the opposite shade roller support.
Referring more particularly to the drawings in which similar reference characters designate corresponding parts throughout the several views, 1 designates one section of the body of the device, while 2 designates the opposite section slidably mounted upon the same and adapted to be guided in its longitudinal movement by means of the guide pins 3 carriedthereby adjacent the inner end of said section 2 and engaged through the elongated longitudinal slot 4: formed in the inner end of the section 1, thereby making itimpossible for one of the sections of the body to move laterally independently ofthe other section. The sections 1 and 2 are also provided upon their outer ends with the inwardly directed claws 5 and 6 respectively for engagement in the opposite sides ofia window frame 7 or the like, to properly support the complete device in position, the sections 1 and 2 being drawn upon one another and resiliently retained in proper position by means of a helical spring 8 which has one end secured to the stationary pin 9 carried by the section 1, while its :opposite end is secured to the upwardly curved inner end 10 of the section 2. It
will be readily seen that this spring 8 will serve to draw the claws 5 and 6 toward one another and retain said claws in engagement with the opposite sides of the window frame 7 after the sections 1 and 2 have been drawn outwardly upon one another and the claws 5 and 6 properly engaged in said window frame 7 Mounted upon the outer face of the section 1 is a shade roller support 11 which has its outwardly directed free outer end 12 with a suitable opening 13 provided therein for receiving one end of a shade roller upon which the shade 1 1 is mounted. The support 11 is slidably mounted upon the section 1 of the body and is guided in its lonwhich the shade 14 is mounted.
cured to the pin' 9, previously mentioned, whereby said support 11 will be resiliently retained in its, innermost position and prevented from moving outwardly after "the shade roller has been secured in position. It will be seen that the pin 9 serves a double purpose as, both the} spring 8 and the spring '17 are secured thereto and extended in opposite directions.
Mounted upon the body section 2 at its outer end is positioned a shade roller support 18- w-hi-ch is adapted to be guided in its longitudinal movement upon said body section 2 by means of the guide pins 19 carried by said body section 2 and projecting through the elongated longitudinal slots 20 in said roller support 18'. The shade roller support 18 is resiliently retained in its in nermost position and prevented from moving outwardly after the shade rollerhas been placed in position and secured in said supports 11 and 18, by means of the helical spring 21 which has one end secured to the outwardly curved inner end 22 of said support 18, while its opposite end is secured to a pin 23 carried by said body section 2. It will be understood that the outer end of the support 18 is extended outwardly, as shown at 24, and providedwi-th a suitable opening 25 to receive one end ofthe roller upon From the foregoing it will be readily seen that I have provided a shade roller hanger which will be composed of the minimum number of parts and may be readily adj usted for window framesand shade rollers of various sizes, and should any oftheparts become worn or broken, they may be readily replaced at a small cost.
While I have shown and described the pre- Gopies of this patent may be obtained for; five cents each, by:v addressing this Washington, 1}, GJ" l nvention as claimed or sacrificing any of the advantages thereof.
What is claimed is An adjustable shade roller hanger comprising a body section provided near its inner end with a longitudinally extending elongated slot, another body section having overlapped engagement with the first named bodysection, guide pins carried by said other body section and passing through said elongated slotto adj'ustably connect the sections, a claw formed on the outer end of each body section, an upturned lug formed on the inner end of said other body section,
a contractile spring secured at one end to saidfirst named body section and at its other end to said lug, a pair of shade roller supports, eachof said supports being provided with an elongated slotextending longitudinally thereof, guide pins carried by the sections and passing throughthe slots of: the supports to. adjlustablymount a support upon each section, lug-stormed on the, inner ends of: said supports, a contractile spring secured to the lug of one of the supports and to one of the body sections, and another contracti le spring secured to the lug of the other support andto said other body section.
Inttestimony whereof I afiix my signature in presence of two Witnesses.
