Description

a. w. KEHRES.
ROLLER.
APPLICATION FILED JULY 18,1921.
- Patented Mar. 7,
dynlnlrriiiliiill' ATTORNEY WITNESS:
PATENT ()FFICE.
GEORGE VT. EEK-IRES, OF ELEHART, INDIANA.
ROLLER.
Application filed July 18, 1921.
T 0 all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, Gnonon WV. Knnnns, a citizen of the United btates, residing at Elkhart, in the county of Elkhart and State of Indiana, have invented new and useful Improvements in Rollers, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to improvements in shade rollers, the general object of the invention being to provide a roller formed of metal and made adjustable as to length so that it can be used with different sizes of shades and windows.
Another object of the invention is to provide the roller with inner and outer parts, the inner part being adapted to receive a loop made in the shade and the outer part being slotted for the passage of the shade.
This invention also consists in certain other features of construction and in the combination and arrangement of the several parts, to be hereinafter fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawings and specifically pointed out in the appended claim.
In describing my invention in detail, retorence will be had to the accompanying drawings wherein like characters denote like or corresponding parts throughout the se'veral views, and in which Figure 1 is a view partly in section of the invention.
Figure 2 is a section on line 2-43 of Figure 1.
Figure 3 ure 1.
Figure 4 is a detail view.
As shown in these views the roller is composed of a pair of inner cylindrical members 1. and a pair of outer cylincrieal inemhers 2, one member of each pair telescoping into its companion member so that the roller can be adjusted as to its length. The inner and outer members are connected together by the end caps 3 and 4 which are riveted together. One set of end caps carries a pintle 5 for engaging one or the supporting brackets and the other set is provided with holes through which passes a shaft 6, the projecting end of which is notched, as at 7, for engaging the other bracket. This shaft extends into one of the inner cylindrical members and has its outer end supported in the block 8 located in said member. A coil spring 9 is carried by said is a sectionon line 33 of Fig- Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Mar. '7, 1922.
Serial No. 485,486.
shaft and the end caps at this end of the device are spaced apart so as to receiv between them the ratchet 10 which is secured to the shaft and the dogs 11 which are pivotally secured to the caps by some of the rivets which connect the caps together. Other of these rivets act as stops 12 for limiting the movement of the dogs. The inner member is adapted to receive a loop of the shade, as shown at 13, and the outer members are slotted, as at 14c, to permit the shade to pass into the same. This springis fastened at its inner end to the shaft and has its outer end connected with the inner cap.
It will thus be seen. that the roller is entirely constructed of metal and can be ad justed as to its length by means of the telescopic parts. The shade is securely fastened to the inner members and will not be liable to tear or be pulled off the roller by sudden jerks, as is the case with roller shades as now made. By placing the ratchet-s and dogs between. the two caps side twisting of the dogs and their supporting rivets is prevented.
It is thought from the foregoing description that the advantages and novel features of my invention will be readily apparent.
I desire it to be understood that I may make changes in the construction and in the combination and arrangement of the several parts, provided that such changes {all within the scope of the appended claim.
What I claim is A shade roller comprising a pair of inner and outer cylindrical members one member of each pair telescoping into its companion member for adjusting said roller, end caps riveted together for connecting said cylindrical members together, a pintle at one end of the roller, a shaft projecting from the other end and adapted to extend into one of the inner cylindrical members having its outer end. supported. in a block located in said member, a coil spring carried by said shaft and the end caps at this end of the device being spaced apart, a ratchet member located between said caps and secured to said shaft, dogs pivotally secured to said caps by means of rivets, and said spring being fastened at its inner end to the shaft and having its outer end connected with the inner cap.
in testimony whereof l Et'illX my signature.
