OLIVE E. CONANT, 0F LAWRENCE, MICHIGAN.
SAD-IRON HOLDER.
Application filed August 12, 1916.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, OLIVE E. GONANT, a citizen of the United States, residing at Lawrence, in the county of Van Buren and State of Michigan, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Sad-Iron Holders, of which the following is a specification.
This invention has reference to sad iron holders, and as its primary aim and object contemplates the provision of a device of this character that can be readily attached to an ironing board or other suitable main support for maintaining a hot iron in a. convenient position within easy reach of the operator.
An qually important object of the invention resides in the provision of an iron support and guard formed from a single piece of wire so connected to the frame of the holder that the portions forming the guard will brace each other and thereby increase the rigidity and effectiveness of the device.
Among the other'aims and objects of the invention may be recited the provision of a device of the character mentioned with a view of compactness, and in which the number of parts are-few, the construction simple, the cost of production small, and the efficiency high.
Other and further improvements and novel details in the construction and arrang'ement of parts will be apparent from the description to follow which for a clear understanding of the invention should be considered in connection with the accompanying drawings forming apart hereof wherein the preferred embodiment of the invention is shown for the purpose of illustration.
In the drawings: Figure 1 is a top plan of my invention connected to the ironing board. Fig. 2 is a side elevation of the same.
Referring more particularly to the drawings in which similar reference numerals designate like and corresponding parts throughout the several views, I have illus trated an ironing board 1 in one end of which are provided spaced openings 2 for removably receiving my improved sad iron holder.
In the present instance the holder consists of a substantially U-shaped frame including an intermediate portion 3 and spaced parallel arms 4 and 5 which terminate in Specification of Letters Patent.

Serial No. 114,585.
right angularly extending feet 6, removably anchored in the openings 2, the arms being adapted to rest on a portion of the board 1 as illustrated in the drawings. This frame wire is coiled as illustrated by the numeral 7 about the arm 4 and extended across the frame to provide a transverse rib 8 being coiled as indicated by the numeral 9 on the other arm 5. The piece ofwire continuing from the coil 9 bent in a semi-circular formation to provide a guarding element 10 being again coiled about the arm 5 as illustrated by the numeral 11 and then extending in a reverse direction to provide a transverse rib 11 arranged in parallel spaced relation with the rib 8 and engaged on the arm 4. The wire is extended and connected in this manner to provide a plurality of transverse ribs 8 and 11 and also to provide guarding elements arranged adjacent the arms and the intermediate portion 3. It will be noted upon reference to Fig. 2 that the guarding element 12 is similar in construction to the guarding element 11 and continued from the V rib 8 braces the adjacent rib 13. All of the ribs brace each other throughout that portion of the frame where they are connected. After the transverse ribs are provided the wire is extended to provide longitudinal ribs 1.4, said ribs being coiled at uniformly spaced intervals throughout their length and engaged about the transverse ribs as indicated by the numeral 15. The longitudinal rib 14 adjacent the arm 4 is extended to engage the arm 4 and is finally anchored as indicated by the numeral 16 on the frame. After a plurality of longitudinal ribs are provided the opposite end of the wire is anchored as at 17 on the frame. As is apparent, the ribs are arranged in spaced parallel relation With the ribs 15 so that in effect a substantially large mesh support is provided and since the wire is formed of substantially resilient material a somewhat yieldable support for the iron is provided while the guarding elements 10, 13, and 14 brace each other and prevent the accidental slipping of the iron over the edge of the frame.
It is to be noted that because of the resiliency of the materialfrom which the-device is formed when the feet 6 are anchored in the openings and the free ends of the arms l and 5 partially supported on the board 1, the Weight of the iron on :the supporting means will have a tendency to increase the efficiency of the engagement of the feet and prevent accidental displacement ofthedevice from the board! Incidentally the feet can be easily inserted and withdrawn from the openings. "Furthermore, it is thought from the foregoing that the detailed description of the operation of the invention is unnecessary. 7
While I have shown and described. the preferred form of my invention, I desire it to be understood that 1 am nottobe limited to the particular formation of the arranged wire on the support it being essential however that a support is provided and that the guarding elements are formed so as to brace each other and thereby increase the rigidity of the device.
As many changes'could be made in the above construction and many apparently widely different embodiments of this invention could be made without departing from the scope thereof, it is intended that all matter contained in the above description ,or
shown in the accompanying drawings shall be interpreted as illustrative and not in a limiting sense. It is also to be understood that the language used in the following claims intended to cover all of the generic and specific features of the ll'lYBIltlOIl herein described and all statements of the scope of the invention, which, as amatter of language, might be said to fall therebetween.
Having thus fully described my inyention, what I claim as new and desire to Secure by Letters Patent, is:
1. A sad iron holder including a supporting frame adapted to be connected to an ironing board, an iron support formed from a single piece of wire connected to the frame to provide a substantially meshed structure.
Copies of this patent may 'be obtained for five cents each, by addressing he Commissioner of ;Patents, 7
2. A sad iron holder including a substantiallyfi-shaped frame adapted to .be connected to a suitable support, an iron support formed from a single piece of mate- ;rial connected to the frame and arranged to forma meshed structure, and guarding elements formed from the same piece of wire-and arranged-adjacent the edges of the frame to prevent accidental displacement of an iron therefrom.
3. rksad iron holder including a substantially-'U-shaped frame adapted to be extended from a suitable support, and a single piece of wire connected .to the frame and arranged to provide an iron support and a guard for preventing displacement of an iron from the support. 7 i
t. A sad iron holderincluding a substantiallv U-sliaped frame having feet on the innerend thereofadapted to be removably connected in a suitable support and maintain the frame in a laterally extended position. and an iron support formed from a single piece of wire connected to the frame and arranged to provide a substantially meshed structure.
A sad iron holder including in comloination withan ironing-board having spaced openings therein, of aiU-shaped frame, feet.
extending from the I inner ends of the frame and anchored'in the openings so as tosupport the frame in a laterally extended p0 Sition with respect-to the=board, and an iron support formed from a singlepieceof material connected to the frame and arranged to form a meshed structure, guarding elements formed fromthe same :piece of wire and arranged adjacent the edges of :the frame to prevent accidental displacement-0f an iron therefrom, and each ofithe guarding elements bracing ,each other :for increasing the rigidity and effectiveness 'ofthe device.
In testimony whereof I affix my signatur in presence of :two witnesses.
