Description

Fi PASTOR.
CHANGEABLE SIGN.
APPLICATION FILED FEB. I6. 1916.
Patented 01:5. 31,1916.
WW3 Yawn/ \FBANK PASTOR, OF AKRON, OHIO.
CHANGEAIBLE SIGN.
Specification of Letters Patent.
App1ication filed February 16, 1916. Serial No. 78,617.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, FRANK Pasron, a subject of the King of Hungary, residing at Akron, in the county of Summit and State of Ohio, have invented new and useful Improvements in Changeable Signs, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to improvements in signs and particularly to that type in which a multiplicity of different names, designating articles may be combined with a variety of prices and quantities.
The principal object of the invention is to provide a sign of extreme simplicity, such as can be be readily used by grocery men and others without difliculty and without occupying an excessive amount of space.
The second object is to provide a device susceptible of indicating the names of an unlimited variety of articles upon one part thereof, the second part also changeable relating to the price, and a third part indicating the quantity, by weight, measure or count, to which the price refers.
These and other objects are attained by the novel construction and combination of parts hereafter described and shown in the accompanying drawing, forming a material part of this specification, and in which Figure 1 is a perspective view of the device, resting upon a convenient support and indicating the purpose of the invention.
Fig. 2 is avertical section, taken substantially through a center line of the same. Fig. 3 is a plan view of one of the main changeable plates. Fig. 4 is a similar plan view, showing the changeable plate used to indicate the nature of the article. Fig. 5 is a plan view, showing an interchangeable card, relating to the quantity indicated by the article and price arranged in connection thereof.
The structure is comprised of a plurality of polygonal plates 10, through the center of which is an opening 11, adapted to receive the bolt 12, the head 1 1 of which is engaged with the back of a card holder 15, adapted to be disposed against the surface of the outer plate and held tightly thereagainst by means of the thumb-nut 16, which presses against the spring washer 17, as shown in Fig. 2. Next adjacent to the washer 17 is a plate element 20 formed with an integralv hinge 21 and a supporting element 22, dis- Patented Got. 31,1916.
being used so that in a device having five 7 plates, it is possible to display eighty different characters.
In the card receiver, 15, a plurality of rectangular small cards may be used having on their exterior designations, as 1b., doz., each, etc, while larger cards 30 may have upon their surface the names of the articles to which it is desired to call attention, such a card being clearly indicated in Fig. 4.
In operation, the larger card 30 is intended to be inserted between the plates 10, preferably between the second and third, in such manner as to permit the selected name to appear, the plate immediately in front being so turned as to show the rate or price at which the article will be sold, according to the quantity indicated on the smaller card. lVhen the plates have been turned so as to show the desired figure, they are securely clamped by means of the wing nut 16. Should the desired price not appear upon the face of the second plate, but is found on any of the succeeding plates, upon either side thereof, the nut 16 is removed, the structure separated and the proper plate placed neXt adjacent to the front plate, whereupon it is again assembled.
Thus it will be seen that a very simple device is presented susceptible of a wide range of indications as to material, prices and quantities and that the combinations which can be made to appear are limited only by the number of plates and cards employed.
Having thus described my invention, what I claimas new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is In a changeable sign structure, the combination with a plurality of polygonal plates bearing inscriptions upon each side thereof, contiguous to their outer edges, a cover plate having an aperture through which any seand said nut, and a plurality of elements lected inscription can be seen, a card holder bearing inscriptions upon each side adapted arranged on the front of said cover plate, an to be received in said card holder. 10 easel support at the rear of said structure, In testimony whereof I have signed my a bolt securing said card holder, plates and name to this specification.
easel together, said bolt having a Wing nut, resilient means interposed between said easel FRANK PASTOR.
Copies of this patent may be obtained for five cents each, by addressing the Commissioner of latents,
