GEORGE E. WAKEFIELD, OF SAN JOSE, CALIFORNIA.
COMBINED BANK-CHECK AND RECORD BOOK.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Oct. 3, 1916.
Application filed January 12, 1916. Serial No. 71,718.
' To all whom it may concern:
relation thereto, upon the opposite cover, a.
ruled record book in which may be entered deposits, checks withdrawn and balance remaining, so that the state of the account is presented at a glance at all times upon opening the book.
It consists in the construction and arrangement of the different elements and in details which will be more fully explained by reference to the accompanying drawings in which Figure 1 is a plan view of the book when open. Fig. 2 is a similar view with the record sheets rolled up and part of the check broken out, and a portion of the blotting pad in place over the check pad. Fig. 3 is an end elevation of the record book in folded or closed position; and, Fig. 4 is an inverted section on the line 4t of Fig. 1.
It is the object of my invention to improve the efficiency of check books, particularly designed for pocket use, by placing adjacent to the check pad a record on which may be entered the amounts drawn, deposits made and balance remaining, and attaching said checks and record to an inclosing cover. The cover A is made of cardboard, leather, or other material, and is foldable along the center. The checks 2 are united so that they may be conveniently separated along the left edge as they are used. The checks are designed to lie upon the lower half of the cover and parallel with the central fold or hinge 3.
In order to secure the checks to the cover a strip or loop at has its ends fixed so that the strip extends across the left end of this half of the cover. A tongue 5 is fixed to the left end of the pad of checks and may be inserted beneath the keeper strip 4, thus holding the checks securely while allowing them to be moved or replaced bodily. The other and upper half of the cover has four keeper strips 6 fixed at the corners and these are adapted to receive the corners of a supplemental cover 7 which has, foldable centrally and transversely of the outer main cover, a'blank book, with vertical lines forming spaces for dates, entries, deposits, checks drawn, and final balances, so that each transaction and the actual balance on hand is shown. The cover 7 and the leaves borne thereby fold on the line 10, which line divides the leaves into two sections 11 and 12 both being rolled up in Fig. 2 to show the cover 7 As shown in Fig. 2, a blotting pad P may be employed and placed over the checks 2; the pad being omitted from Fig..
1. When the record book is closed, as shown in Fig. 3, it may be conveniently filed away as a permanent record. With this device, when the book is opened, the personal record and cash balance are exposed to view at a single operation. A check may be written or a deposit entered, and with a blotter lying between, the closing of the book will blot the entries, after which, by again opening it, the check may be detached. The record book will serve'for a long time, while the checks may be easily replaced when exhausted. By making the outer cover wider, two sets of checks and two record books may be contained and separate accounts may be carried in the one device.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent is- In a combined bank check and record book, a main foldable cover, a pad of blank checks carried by the main cover on one side of the line of foldthereof, a blank book having a foldable cover which is carried by the other side of the main cover with the leaves of the blank book open, said blank book having a central line of fold at right angles to the line of fold of the main cover, and means on the last named side of the main cover to hold the blank book cover open.
In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
GEORGE F. WAKEFIELD.
