Description

J. M. BEIERMEISTER.
FOLD COLLAR.
APPLICATION FILED FEB. H. 1916.
Patented Aug. 22, 1916.
[rzveniar JOHN. M. BEIERMEISTER, or TROY, NEW YORK.
QFFTC FOLD-COLLAR.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it knownthat I, JOHN M. BEIER unIs- TER, a citizen of the United States, residing at Troy, county of Rensselaer, and'State of the folded-over top adapted to form a slideway for the necktie, and having means for preventing engagement of the necktie with the stud or button whereby the back of the collar is attached to the neckband of a shirt.
The principal object of the invention is to facilitate the manufacture of such a foldcollar with a depending buttonhole-tab on the inner side of the band.
Other objects will appear in connection with the following description.
Figure 1 of the drawings is a front view in perspective of a fold-collar embodying the invention. Fig. 2 is a vertical section on the broken line 22. in Fig. 1, throughthe collar at one side of the tab. Fig. 3 is a vertical section on the broken line'33, in Fig. 1, through the tab-portion of the collar.
Referring to the drawings wherein the invention is shown in preferred form, 1 is the band, and 2, the folded-over top of the collar, each being made up of a plurality of plies. The innermost ply of the top is inserted between the band-plies to which it is stitched by seam, 3, as shown at, 2 The outermost top-ply extends over the upper edge of the band and down along the inner side of the band about midway of the height of the band, the lower edge of said extension, 2*, being inturned and attached to the inner side of the band by stitching, 5. Midway of its length, the extension, 2", is formed with an integral tab, 6, depending free from the band and provided with a buttonhole, 7, adapted for use as the back buttonhole of the collar. The edge of the tab is inturned; and the tab is preferably provided with a facing, 8, the edge of which is inturned and secured to the inturned edge of the tabportion, 6, of the extension, 2*, by stitching, 9. The stitching, 5, is extended across the Specification. of Letters :Patent.
Patented Aug. 22, 1916.
Applieation filed. February 11, 1916. Serial 1\To. 77,571.
base of the tab and the upper edge of the facing, 8, which is inserted between the extension, 2 and the band, 1. The extension, 2 is preferably further secured to the band by the stitching, 8, along the upper edge of the band.
I have shown the band and the top each formed of two plies only, but it will be understood that either may have one or more intermediate plies if desired.
The buttonholed tab, 6, can be readily attached to the back collar-button on the shirtneckband to properly hold the collar in proper position at the back; and the head of the button will be covered by the band, leaving the space between the band and the folded-over top wholly unobstructed and free to receive the necktie.
The extension, 2 is the full length of the top, and presents a smooth and unbroken folded edge along the top of the collar, thereby eliminating the bead ordinarily found in fold-collars along the upper edge of the innermost ply of the band.
What I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent isr 1. A fold-collar having a band and a folded-over top, said top having an integral extension of its outermost ply extended throughout its length over the top edge of the band and stitched to the inner side of the band intermediately of the height of the band, said extension having midway of its length an integral tab depending free from the band and provided with a buttonhole, said band being continuous opposite said tab.
2. A fold-collar having a band and a folded-over top, said top having an integral extension of its outermost ply extended throughoutits length over the top edge of the band and stitched to the inner side of the band intermediately of the height of the band, said extension having midway of its ends an integral tab depending free from the band and provided with a buttonhole; and a facing for said tab inserted and stitched between the band and said extension.
3. A fold-collar having a band and a folded-over top, each formed of a plurality of plies, the innermost ply of the top being inserted between the band plies, the outermost ply of the top having an integral extension extending over the top edge of the band and stitched to the inner side of the band intermediately of the height of the lot band, said extension having midway of its o ends an integral tab depending 'free from the band and provided With a buttonhole;
folded-over top, said top having an integral extension of its outermost ply extended throughout its length over the top edge of ing 'belowisa'id line of stitching free from the band and "provided with a buttonhole, said band being continuous opposite said tabg; v,-
In testimony whereof, I have hereunto set a y hand this 7th day of February, 1916 10 the band and secured by a line of'stitching JOHN M.; BEIERMEISTEB,
Copies of this patent may be obtained for five cents each, by addressing. the Commissioner of Patents. Washington',D.G. v V.
