Description

G. S RAIVISBURG.
C(JM'BINATION FLOWER POT AND DIRT BAND.
APPLICATION FILED APR. 4. I916- Patented Aug. 15, 1916.
COMBINATION FLOWER-POT AND DIRT-BAND.
Lldellfidil.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Aug. i5, 1916.
. :Applicationfilediipril 4, 1916. Serial No. 88,828.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, Guoncn SUEL RAMsnmzc, a citizen :of the United States, residing at Somersworth, in the-county of Stra fford, State of New Hampshire, have invented certain new :and useful Improvements in Gom'bination Flower-Pots and Dirt-Bands; and l do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact 'description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which :it appertains to make and use the same. I
Thisinvention relates to a combination flowerpot and dirt band.
An object of the invention resides in the provision of a device of this character which may be stamped from :a'single blank of material. f
A further object of the invention resides in the readily assembled to form a flower pot.
A further object of the invention resides in so constructing the device that it may be assembled as a "dirt band :andwh-ich is constructed so that it will not "be 'eifected by the dampnessrfrom the earth.
A still further object of the invention re-v sides in the provision of .a device which may be easily and cheaply manufactured and quickly assembled for either use.
- With these and'other objects in view, such as will appear .as my description progresses,
in eflect two stripsl tilt my invention comprises the combination and arrangement of parts as set forth in and falling within the scope of the appended claims.
In the drawing: Figure 1 is a view of the blank from which my device is formed; Fig. 2 is a perspective view of the device when used. as a pot; Fig. 3 is a similar view of a device when used as a dirt band, and Fig. 4 is an enlarged detail of one of the locks.
in Fig. 1 of the drawing '1 have illustrated a blank which is made of one piece of material-such as cardboard, there being and 2, which strips are, however, formed integrally with each other and extend in right angular, relation. The
strip 1 is provided with a slit 3fi'n one edge and adjacent to one end andis provided at the other end with a tongue 4. It is further provided with a rectangular cutout portion 5 in one ed ebetween itsends. The strip 2 is provide with a stamped out tongue. 6
.gaged in the slit 3 so the dampness will not they will consequently provision of a device which may be I I do not which extends inwardly from the end of the strip.
In assembling the-device for a flower pot the strip 1 is bent on the lines 7 into a rectangular form and the tongue 4 is enthat the ends of the strips are held together. The strip '2 is bent on the lines 8 and 8' and the tongue 6 engaged in the cut-out portion 5 in the strip 1. Thus a rectangular pot is formed, the sides of the pot being formed by the strip 1 and the bottom by the strip 2 and these sides and bottom are held in place by the interengaging of the tongues 4 and 6 with the adjacent portions of the strips so that effect the joints and hold tight under all conditions. the device as a dirt band the strip 2 may be severed from the strip 1 along the line 8 and the strip lbent into the form above described. This will result in a dirt band which will be bottomless.
It is to be noted that the device is so constructed that it dispenses with the use of glue or other adhesives so that it will not be effected by the dampness from the earth.
It is to be understood that the sides and bottom of the device may be made double by extending a strip parallel with the strip 1 and outwardly from the strip 2.
'While I have illustrated and described the embodiment of my invention, it has merely been for the sake of convenience and wish to be limited to that particular embodiment as it is obvious that numerous changes may be made in the details of construction without departing from the spirit of the invention or exceeding the scope of the appended claims.
What I claim is:
1. A flower pot consisting of a strip bent into rectangular form and having .a tongue inone end thereof and a slit adjacent to the other end thereof, which tongue engages in said slit to lock the ends together, a strip extending from one side of the first mentioned strip .and forming the bottom of the pot and extending upwardly in contact with the outer face of one side thereof, said first mentioned strip having a rectangular cutout portion in one edge thereof and a downwardly extending tongue stamped from the other strip and engaging in said rectangular cut-out portion.
When it is desired to assemble 2. A flower pot blank consisting of a rectangular strip having a slit in one edge thereof extending at rlght angles to the edge and having also a slit in another edge thereof, which latter edge extends at right angles to the first edge and which slit extends at an acute angle to the second edge and forms a tongue, the said strip having also a rectangular cut-out portion between the ends 10 of the first mentionededge, and a' strip extending at right angles from the first mentioned strip and having an inwardly extending tongue stamped therefrom.
In testimony whereof, I affix my signature, in the presence of two witnesses.
GEORGE SUEL RAMSBURG.
Witnesses:
