Description

W. Nl. .LARRABEL CUFF BUTTGNx APPLICATION FILED Dea-.3. 1915.

j@ a go u of' WILLIAM MARCELLUS LARRABEE, OF WAUPUN, WISCONSIN.
CTIEF-BUTTON.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Aug. 8, 1916.
Application filed December 3, 1915. Serial No. 64,873.
To cZZ whom may concern:
Be it known that I, l/VILLIAM; M. LARnA- BEE, a citizen of the United States, residing at Waupun, in the county of Fond du Lac, State of Wisconsin, have invented `a new and useful Cuff-Button; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to an improved cuff button.
An object of the invention is to provide a device of this nature having simple, efiicient, and practical features of construction.
One of the features of construction is the provision of a link cuff button, the connecting link or bar of which is provided with means to prevent the link or connection bar from sliding back and forth through one of the button holes of the cud.
Another feature of the invention is the provision of a pivotal connection between one end of the connecting link or bar and one of the buttons of the cuff button, in combination with means beyond the pivoted end of the link or bar extending into a recess of the pivoted button to abut against a shoulder, to limit the -pivoted button against movement in one direction.
In practical fields, the details of construction may necessitate alterations, falling within the scope of what is claimed.
The invention comprises further features and combination of parts, as hereinafter set forth, shown in the drawings and claimed.
In the drawings: Figure 1 is a view in perspective of the improved link cuff button constructed in accordance with the invention. Fig. 2 is a view in side elevation. Fig. 3 is a view in side elevation, showing the pivoted button as having been turned or swung upon its pivot illustrating its rear face in elevation. Fig. 4L is a viewin side elevation at right angles to that shown in Fig. 3. Fig. 5 is a view in detail elevation illustrating the pivotal connection between one end of the connecting link or bar and the pivoted button.
Referring more especially to the drawings 1 designates the connecting link or bar of the cud button, which bar is cylindrical and is slightly curved as shown at 2 at one end, and beyond this curvature, the end portion is reduced to form a flat part 3. This flat part in side elevation as shown in Fig. 5 terminates in a laterally extending curved tongue 4. The button 5 is provided with a pair of spaced ears 6, between which ears the fiat part 3 extends, and is pivoted between the ears by the pin 7. The laterally extending curved tongue 4 extends into a recess 8 in the rear face of the button 5, so that when `the button is moved pivotally in the direction of the arrow a, the shoulder 9 at one end of the recess 8 will contact or abut against the end of the laterally extending curved tongue, thereby limiting the button 5 to the position shown in Fig. 5. However, the button 5,1nay be moved pivotally in the direction of the arrow o, so that the button 5 will strike against the side of the connecting link or bar, enabling the button to be inserted edgewise through the button holes of the cuff. The cylindrical sides of the shank adjacent the other end thereof gradually diverge and blend into an annular disk 10, and extending from the face 11 of the disk 10 is a shank 12, which, from 13 to 111 in Fig. 3, is of a width equal to the diameter of the disk 10, and which in thickness, as shown in Fig. 4:, is substantially a little less than one third the diameter of the disk 10. Formed integral with the shank 12 is the other button 15, substantially the same diameter and shape or contour of the button 5. In arranging the cuff button, the button 5 is swung upon its pivot as in Fig. t, and then inserted edgewise through the button holes of the cuff, which button holes are first arranged in registration. However, the connecting link or bar or shank is inserted suiiiciently through the first button hole, until the first button hole engages about the shank 12. The gradual diverging curvatures of the cylindrical part of the shank act to widen or stretch the first button hole sufiiciently, so as to pass over the disk 10.
The invention having been set forth, what is claimed as new and useful is:
1. A link cuff button comprising a connecting link or bar having a button pivoted upon one end, and a second button inte grally and stationary with the other end, said link or connecting bar substantially midway its end merging into a circular disk having a Hat face spaced at an interval from the stationary button, and a fiat shank of the same diameter of a disk and being ntegrally connected to the disk, and being in turn integrally connected to the stationary button.
2. A link cuff button, comprising a pair of buttons, a connecting link or bar having one end integrally connected to one of the buttons, the other end portion of the link or bar having a gradual curve, the extremity of which terminates in a iiat part terminating in a lateral curved tongue, the other button being solid and having a pair of ears on its rear face between which the iiat part eX- tends, a pivot pin extending through the ears and the fiat part, said pivoted button on its rear face having a recess between the ears curved on a radius from the pivot pin and into which recess the tongue extends, said recess having a shoulder at one end to Contact with the tongue to limit the pivoted button in a position with the link eX- tending centrally from the button.
In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
WILLIAM MARCELLUS LARRABEE.
