Description

PATENT OEEICE.
ALEXANDER C. FAIVRE, OF MEADVILLE, PENNSYLVANIA.
IMPROVEMENT IN SASH-HOLDERS.
Specication forming part of Letters Patent No. 119,132, dated September 19, 1871.
To all whom it may concern:
` Be it known that I, ALEXANDER O. FArvRE,
of the city of Meadville, in the county of Crawford and State of Pennsylvania, have invented an Improved Sash-Fastener, of Which the following is a specification:
Figure l shows the fastener in position to hold the sash down. Fig. 2 is a top View of detached fastener, showing the eccentric A in two positions. Fig. 3 is a view ofthe under side of bedpiece B of the fastener.
The eccentric A moves on the post F, which is rmlyfixedin the bedpiece B, as seen in Fig. 3, centrally to the curved slot I, and there islanother post, E, Which is firmly iixed in the eccentric, and reaches through the slot I far enough to give a bearing to the pitman l). The bedpiece is recessed on the under side to give room for the spring C to play, When in position for use. The spring C is iiXed in a hole at H, and bending around passes under a loop at G, and is brought around till the hook is just on aline With the center of the slot I and the post F, the pitman D allowing the post E to swing freely through the slot holding the eccentric in either position, With equal intensity. The dotted lines in Fig. 3 show the position ofthe parts When the post E is on the dead-center, Where it may remain While the sash is moving up or down, Where it is desired not to rub the WindoW-jambs. The eccentric A is made With a face about half an inch deep, With thumb-piece J to throw it over by. The point of eccentricity at F should be about oneethird the diameter of A. The object of the spring is to hold the eccentric in readiness, and help it to take hold when in position to hold the sash either up or down. Two screws are all that is needed to fix it to the sash. It operates equally Well at either side of the Window.
What I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
The combination ofthe bed-piece B, slotted as shown, eccentric A, posts E and F, spring C Working in the recess in the rear of the bed-plate, and the pitman D, all constructed as described vand shown, and for the purpose set forth.
