Description
Wayzu, PETERS. PHoTo-LITHQGRAFHER, WASHINGTON. D l24 naar site WILLIAM C. GOLES, OF WILLIAMSBURG, NEW YORK.
Letters Patent No. 113,264, dated April 4, 1871.
IMPROVEMENT IN BQLTS.
The Schedule referred to in these Letters Patent and making parent the saune.`
To all whom it may conce/rn:
Be it known that I, WILLIAM G. GOLES, of Williamsburg, in the county of Kings .and State of New York,'have invented a useful Improvement in Bolts; and I dohereby declare that thefollowing is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, which will enable others skilled in the art to make and use the same, reference beinghad to the accompanying drawing formingpart of this specification.4
Figure l is a detail sectional view of my improved bolt through the line x x, lig. 2.
Figure .5 is a detail sectional view of the same taken through the line y y, g. 1.
Figure 3 is an outside view of the same.
My invention has for its object to-furnish a'neat, simple, and convenient bolt for window-sashes, doors, 85e.; and
`It consists iu the construction and combination of the various parts ofthe bolt, as hereinafter more fully described.
A is the cap or case of the' bolt, whichris secured in place by a single screw, B, that passes in through the center ot' the said case, and screws. into the sash or other object to which the -bolt is to be attached.
Upon the edges of the case A are formed small prongs or teeth a, which sink into the wood-and prevent the case A from turning upon the screw B;
C is acircular plate, the edges of which t into'a rebate 'in the inner edge of th" case A, and through the' center of which the screw B passes.
D is the bolt, which works through a notch or hole in the side of the case A; the inner part of the bolt D is` slotted longitudinally to receive the screw B, which serves as a guide. to the said bolt in its Inovement. l
The belt D slides out and in upon the plate G, and its inner part is notched upon its outer side to receive va small circular disk, E, through a hole in which, near one edge, passes the screw B, which thus pivots the said disk eccentrically.
To the disk E, neai` its other side, is secured the stem of the knob F, which passes in through a curved slot in the case or cap A, so that the bolt D may be moved in and out by moving the said eccentric disk Earound upon its pivoting point by moving the knob-F along the curved slot in thecap A.
'G is a `circular' disk, through the center of which the screw B passes, and through which, near one side, the stem ot' the knob F passes, as shown in iig. 2.
The disk G is placed directly beneath and close to the top of the cap or case A, and is designed to close the curved slot through the said caseor cap A to ,prevent the entrance of dirt to the interior of the case.
The slot in the case A should be made of such a length that when the bolt D is pushed out the knob F will have crossed the central vline of the said bolt,
-so that no inward pressure upon the outer end of the bolt can turn the disk E back and thus allow the bolt to be pushed in.
Having thus described my invention,
I claim as newfand desire to secure by Letters *Patent-4 An improved bolt, consisting of the circular slotted cap or case A made with teeth upon its edge, screw B, slotted bolt D, eccentric disk E, knob F, and'guardplate G said parts being constructed andoperating inconnection with each other substantially as herein shown and described, and for the purpose set forth.
Ihe above specification of my invention signed by me this 1st day of March, 1871.
' WILLIAM C. GOLES.
'Witnessesr JAMES T; GRAHAM,
GEO. W. MABEE.
