T 0 all whom t may concern Be it known that I, JAMES C. NAUGHTON, a citizen of the United States, residing at Rochester, in the county of Monroe and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Key-Ring Supports; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and 'exact description of the invention, such as will enablev others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same. Y

My invention relates to article holders or devices for detachably clasping, fastening or holding articles which are to be carried about on the clothing of a user.

More particularly stated, my invention relates to holders for key-rings and keys, comprising a novel construction, combination and arrangement of resilient body and flexible sheath members, designed and adapted to be clipped on to the waist-band of a pair of trousers, orv other garments, andY to constitute a support for key-rings and keys, as also a sheath for such rings and keys when so supported. Y

This invention, therefore, has for an object-the production of devices of the character indicated, which are at once simple and cheap of construction, easily applied and eminently satisfactory in their practical use and operation.

A `further object is that of detachably locating a key-ring and keys with reference to the person of a user, so that they shall' at all times be most accessible and convenient for instant use.

A further object of the present invention is to obviate the serious wear and tear to which Apockets are subjected by key-rings and keys when carried therein.

A further object of the invention is to so sheath a key-ring and keys by means of tough, flexible and pliable guards or aps, as to positively prevent contact with adjacent articles of wearingV apparel, and consequently to prevent chang. or abrading the same.

With these and other objects and ad the invention, showing same applied and 1n position for use upon the waist-band of y a pair of trousers. Fig. 2 is a relatively enlarged elevation of the invention detached, one corner being broken away showing frame of the holder. Fig. 3 is a perspective View,` of the unitary frame member of resilient material, and Fig. 4 is a vertical, and substantially central, section of the invention taken on the line 4-4 of Fig. 2.

. Reference being had to the drawings and niuneralsthereon, 1 indicates the metallic frame or body of the structure, preferably of resilient or spring'material, and of unitary construction. The horizontal portion of the said supporting frame.V 1 may be curvedv slightly as shown the better to conform to the body of awearer, and is provided at opposite ends with integral and upwardly extending spring fastening clipsv 2, 2, for purposes which will later appear.

Projecting centrally in an -opposite or downward direction, from-the horizontal member of said frame,v .1, is a supporting hook 3 which is adapted toreceive and detachably retain a key-ring and keys. Thisv I hook Vmember 3 is also by preference of integral-formation, and is slightly curved as at 4 to facilitate its application to the person of a wearer, and its use.

Suspended from thehorizontal member of supporting frame 1 is a tough, flexible sheath, preferablyof leather, the twov flaps or sides 5 and 6 thereof being folded upon themselves, and upon opposite sides of the depending ring-hook 3, as best shown by Fig. 4. At its opposite upper corners the said sheath is perforated as at 7, 7 to permit passage therethrough of clips 2, 2, as best shown by Fig. 2, and by this ligure it is also apparent that the flaps 5 and 6 differ slightly in length.

The construction of my invention being substantially as shown and described, its use and operation are so apparent that a description thereof hardly seems necessary. It may be noted, however, that the peculiarly balanced arrangement of duplicate resilient clips 2, 2, insures satisfactory attachment to a waistband, Vand permits of horizontal adjustment in either direction to the position of greatest convenience. It ma also be noted that the unequal length of the shield flaps 5 and 6 Afacilitates lifting the former or separating the two when removing or replacing a `key-ring upon hook 8.

The foregoing being a description of my l invention in its best form of construction at present known to me, it should be understood that various changes in the form, proportion and arrangement of parts may be made and substituted for those shown Without materially departing from the spiritY of my invention, and to all such modifications and adaptations l lay claim the saine as if lt should be noted also that the single unitary structure shown by Fig. 3 of the drawings is a thoroughly practical and operative device of the character set forth, and is in itself a simplified form of the present invention.

Having thus described my invention, what I now claim and Idesire to secure Patent is:
