G. A. WHITE.
CUSPIDOR. APPLICATION FILED MAR- I. I916.
Patented June 27, 1916.
GRANT ALLAN WHITE, or PETEasBUaG, NEBRASKAQ OUSP-IDOB.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented June 27, 1916.
Application filed March 1,1916. Serial No. 81,470.
To all whom may concern:
Be it known that 1, GRANT A. WHITE,a
citizen of the United States, 'residing' at Petersburg, in the county of Boone. and State of Nebraska, have invented new and useful Improvements in Cuspidors, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to sanitary cuspidors and it consists in the novel features hereinafter described and claimed.
An object of the invention is to provide a cuspidor with a detachable receptacle of simple and cheap structure which may be removed from the frame of the cuspidor and destroyed without necessitating washing of the cuspidor.
With this object in view the structure includes a frame which may be of sheet metal or open work wire and which is provided at its lower portion with a weight adapted to hold the frame in upright position when resting upon the floor. A coil spring surrounds the'lower portion of the frame and projects inwardly just above the weight. A receptacle of parafiin paper or other suitable material is adapted to be positioned in the upper portion of the frame and the said receptacle is provided at itsupper-end with a flange adapted to lie over the upper edge of the-frame andthe receptacle is provided in the vicinity of its lowerend with an annular depression adapted to receive the spring whereby the said receptacle is securely held in position in the frame.
In the accompanying drawing :Figure' 1 is a side elevation of the cuspidor. Fig. 2 is'a vertical sectional view of the same. The other figures are detail views of the features thereof. f
' The cuspidor comprises a frame 1 which may be of metal, wire or any other suitable -material and which is provided at its lower end with a weight 2 which positions thecenter of gravity of the frame of the structure in the vicinity of the lower edge thereof whereby the structure is not liable to be tilted over when resting upon the floor. An annular coil spring 3 is located in the frame 1 just above the weight 2 and the opposite sides of the upper portion of the frame 1 converge in a downward direction toward the spring3. The spring 3 is locatedwithin the said frame. A receptacle 4 is detachably mounted in the frame 1 and the said receptacle is provided in the v'icintiy of its lower end with: an annular depression 5 adapted to receive the spring 3 and frictionally engage the same whereby the said receptacle 1s securely held in position in the frame 1. The receptacle 4 is preferably madefrom paraffin paper oralthough any other cheap material which is impervious to water may be employed. The receptacle 4 isprovided at its top end With-a flange 6 adapted to extend over the upper edge of the frame 1 and the said receptacle is further provided with a funnel shaped top 7 adapted to direct liquid into the body of the receptacle.
When it is desired'to clean the cuspidor it is not necessary to immerse the same in a bucket of water as is the usual practice to wash the structure. In lieu of this the receptacle 4 is detached from the frame 1 and it together with its contents may be destroyed by burning or.otherwise. After a used receptacle is removed from the frame an unused and clean receptacle may be inserted in the frame thus avoiding the necessity of bringing the hands in contact with a the contents of the cuspidor when it is cleaned.
From the above description taken in conjunction with the accompanying drawing it will be seen that a cuspidor of simple and cheap' structural arrangement is provided and that the same includes sanitary features inasmuch as the structure may be cleaned without necessitating the operator bringing the hands in contact with the contents of the receptacle.
Having described the invention what is claimed is 1. A cuspldor comprising a frame, a
frame, a spring mounted the frame and a receptacle having a depression adapted to engage the spring whereby thereceptacle is held in position in the frame.
2. A cuspidor comprising a frame, a
weight located at the lower portion of the frame, an annular coil spring located-within the frame and a receptacle having an annular depression adapted to receive the said spring.
weight located at the. lower portion of the
