IMPROVEMENT IN MATCH-HOLDERS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 118,628, dated August 29, 1871; antedated August 25, 1871.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that LI, L. OTTo P. MEYER, of Newtown, county of Fairfield and State of Connecticut, have invented certain Improvements in the Manufacture of Match-Holders forthe Safety- Match; and the following is a specification there- 0f With the view of reducing the cost of my safetymateh, I have invented and constructed a matchholder for which the matches may be supplied in common paper boxes or in paper packages, and for which the igniting-surface-the surface for igniting the 1n atches-may be furnished on thick paper; and for greater convenience the matchholder, without being inconvenientlylarge or projective, is constructed so as to present a large surface for igniting matches, and to hold in place against the rear or plate b a few reserve sheets of igniting-surfaces.
The Plate III contains the perspective view of holder D, embodying my invention, and showing the igniting-surfacein its place, and the geometrical drawing of the same, with igniting-surfaee removed. Figure 1 is a front elevation. Fig. 2
is a side elevation. Fig. 3 is a sectional side elevation, section at the dotted line. plan.
It is optional of what material the matchholder D be manufactured; but in the drawing it is represented as being made of sheet metal. The holder is fixed to its place by the ears a a. The front plate b is provided with the grooves c c, which are closed at the bottom end. Between said grooves is to be placed a piece of ignitingsurface, so as to cover about the whole front plate b. Behind the front plate b, and with a little space intervening, is the box d in which the matches are to stand and partly to. project above. The spring e is riveted to the bottom ear a, and is designed to hold a few reserve pieces of igniting-surfaces.
I claim as my invention- The combination of the front plate b, grooves o o, box d, and spring c, substantially as and for the purpose hereinbefore set forth.
