UNITED STATES PATENT FFICE.
HENRY W. GETMAN, OF ILION, NEW YORK.
TRACE-FASTEN ER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 414,517, dated November 5, 1889.
Application filed March 22, 1889. Serial No. 304,245. (No model.) I
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, HENRY W. GETMAN, a
citizen of the United States of America, residing at Ilion, in the county of I-Ierkimer and State of New York, haveinvented certain new and useful Improvements in Trace-Fasteners, of which the following is a specification, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawings. Myimprovement in trace-fasteners consists in the peculiar construction, combination, and arrangement of the parts, substantially as hereinafter more fully described, and pointed out in the claim.
In the drawings, Figure 1 is a View in perspective of my trace-fasteners, and Figs. 2 and 3 are detail views thereof.
In my trace-fastener my object has been, by employing the fewest parts possible, not only to simplify its structure, butto cheapen the cost of production. In accomplishing this purpose the metallic spring A is fashioned to fulfill all the purpose of a trace-fastener, and to this end it is provided at its outer end with the triangular clutch a, which springs down outsideof the trace and securely holds it on the whiffietree, as shown. It is also provided with the spring-curves b and c, and is apertured at dd to conform to corresponding screwapertures in spring-holder B, wherein it is rigidly secured to the whiffletree. Holder B, however ornamental, is chiefly designed to hold spring A in position and to strengthen it, as the spring projects through its slot e, fitting flush therewith, and Where curved to conform to curve f finds its bearings against said plate. Thus it will be seen that my trace-fastener is no less simple in construction than eflicient and inexpensive.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
The combination, with the holder orcasting having the curved under surface and the slot arranged contiguously to said under surface, of the spring having a V-shaped clutch and reversely-curved portions partially resting in the curved portion of said holder and projecting through the slot of said holder, substantially as set forth.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
HENRY W. GETMAN.
