NECKTIE HOLDER.
APPLICATION FILED MAR. I. 1915.
WALTER S. RUTLEDGE AND JOHN' H. DE WEESE, OF DAYTON, OHIO.
NECKTIE-I-IOLDER.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented May 30, 1916.
Application led March 1, 1915. Serial No. 11,336.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that we, WALTER S. RUT- LEDGE and JOHN H. DE WEnsE, citizens of the United States, residing at Dayton, in the county of Montgomery and State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Necktie-Holders; and we do declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters and igures of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this speciiication.
Our invention relates to new and useful improvements in necktie holders, or means for holding a number of ties together or in one package in a show case.
In yretail stores,y much annoyance is experienced in keeping quantities of ties in neat packages or bunches in show cases.
It is, therefore, the object of our invention to provide a neat clamp or holder which engages the neck portions of a number of ties doubled and laid one upon another in bunches. The holder consists of a metal band which, owing to its smallness, does not encumber or interfere with the handling or display of the ties.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is a plan view showing our improved holder clamping together a package of ties; Fig. 2 is a view at a right angle to Fig. 1; Fig. 3 is a perspective view of the clamp or holder; Fig. 4E is a cross-sectional view of the holder or clamp; Fig. 5 is a detached view of the movable plate; and Fig. 6 is a detail sectional view showing the manner of uniting the springs to the frame and movable plate.
The holder comprises a rectangular frame having a base l, sides 2 2, and top 3. This frame is essentially light and may be made of a variety of materials, such as thin sheet metal, Celluloid, gutta percha, and the like. Each of the side members has shoulders 4 formed thereonl and the ends of two springs 5 are attached to the base 1. Thisattachment is conveniently made by stamping tongues 6 in the case of metal and clamping the ends of the springs therebeneath. A clamping plate 7 is arranged to slide on the side members of the frame. A convenient way of mounting this element 7 is by means of slots 8 in the ends thereof which receive the sides of the frame. The length of Said plate 7 is such that it extends a sufficient distance from the sides of the frame to enable the ingers to move it against the springs to increase the space between said plate and the top of the frame. The plate 7 may be compresesdv until it reaches the shoulders 4. The ends of the springs are also united to the clamping plate 7, a convenient manner being through means of tongues 6 stamped therefrom and beneath which the ends of the springs are clamped. The ties 9 are extended between the top 3 of the frame andthe clamping plate 7 and are held securely in bundles, the individual ties of which may be readily displayed by turning them over and without removing the clamping device or holder. In the case of the sale of one or more ties from a package, they are easily removed by pressing the pressure plate 7 against the springs to relax the hold on the package of ties.
Having described our invention, we claim,
yA device for holding a bundle of neckties together, comprising a portable rectangular frame having end and side members, oppositely disposed shoulders on the side members adjacent to one end member, a clamping plate having transverse slots adjacent to its ends through which the side members of the frame extend and form guides upon which said plate is slidable, said shoulders forming stopsfor the plate, the ends of said plate terminating adjacent to the side members, the other end member forming a stationary abutment between` which and said plate a bundle of neckties is insertible, and springs connected to the first named end member and to said plate and exerting pressure to hold the ties between said plate and the last named Iend member, whereby an assortment of neckties may be held in a bundle andmoved from place to' place for display, substantially as specified.
In testimony whereof we aftix'our signatures, in presence of two witnesses. Y
