1 Claim.
This invention appertains to improvements in carriers or cases for articles of apparel and particularly appertains to improvements in. tie
cases.
A primary object of this invention is to provide a compact and lightweight case for retaining ties in a dustproof and neat manner, obviating wrinkling of the ties.
Another object of this invention is to provide a tie case, which includes a pair of plastic cooperating members, which form the back and front of the case, one of the members being pro- ,vided with hanger arms or bars for supporting a plurality of ties and being provided with means for engaging the suspended portions of the ties and retaining the ties in proper and neat order.
These and ancillary objects and structural features of merit are attained by this invention, a preferred embodiment of which has been set forth in the following description and illustrated in the accompanying drawing, wherein:

Figure 2 is a front elevational view of the back member, with the front member being shown in side elevation;
Figure 3 is a front elevational view of the front member, with the back member being shown in side elevation;
Figure 4 is a longitudinal vertical sectional view taken on line 44 of Figure 1;
Figure 5 is a transverse sectional view taken on line 5-5 of Figure 1;
Figure 6 is a fragmentary detailed sectional view taken on line 6-6 of Figure 1 and illustrat- Referring now more particularly to the accompanying drawing, the tie case [0 includes a back member or section 12, which includes a back wall M from the opposing end edges of which end walls 16 and I8 project outwardly in parallelism. A single side wall 20 projects laterally from one of the longitudinal marginal edges of the rectangular back wall [4 and is connected at its opposing ends to one of the ends of the end walls It and [8.
A front member or section 22 is arranged cooperatively with the back member or section l2 and includes a front wall 24, from the opposing end edges of which end walls 26 and 28 laterally project, the end walls being joined at one of their ends by a single side wall 30, which projects 2 laterally from one of the side edges of the front wall 24.
An abbreviated or narrow wall 32 is formed on the back member or section l2 and is integral with the outer edge of the side wall 20 and with minor portions of the outer edges of the end walls 16 and I8 adjacent to the side wall 20.
The front wall 24 of the front section is narrower than the back wall I4 of the back section, and at one side edge of the wall 24 the end walls 26 and 28 project to constitute arms 34 and 3B, the arms engaging on the outer surfaces of the end walls 16 and i8 of the back section [2 and hinge means 38 joins the arms and end walls together.
The hinge means 38 includes semi-spherical recesses or sockets 40 formed in the end walls it and !8, adjacent to the side wall 20, with ball elements or detents 42 being integral with the arms and extending laterally therefrom for socketing in the recesses, the ball elements being swivelly disposed in the recesses.
A plurality of hanger arms or bars 52 are mounted in the back member [2, the bars being provided with a common supporting plate 44 formed integral with one of the ends of the bars and affixed to the side wall 20, adjacent to the end wall I8. The hanger bars, thus, project laterally from the side wall 20 and are disposed parallel to the back wall I4 and positioned in spaced relation thereto.
Means is carried by the back wall l4 and disposed below the hanger arms 52 for engaging the suspended portions of ties hanging from the hanger bars and spacing the suspended portions outwardly from the back wall Id. The means includes presser bars 46, which are anchored to the back wall [4 by accordion shaped spring bars 48.
In use, ties are disposed over the hanger bars 52 and suspended therefrom, the ties being individually placed on the hanger bars and depending therefrom. The suspended portions of the tie are engaged by the presser bars 46 and held out of engagement with the back wall M of the back member. The front member is then moved relative to the back member or both members moved relative to each other, with the mem bers moving about the hinge 38, the ball elements 62 rotating in the recesses or sockets 4G. The members are moved to a closed position, with the ends walls 26 and 28 enclosing the end walls It and ill of the back member and the side wall 30 of the front member forming a side Wall for the back member, the suspended portions of the ties being urged into engagement with the back wall 24 of the front member by the spring urged presser bars 46.
When the members are in closed positions, the back wall 24 of the front member mates with the front wall 32 of the back member, the outer edges of the respective walls being in confronting relation and the back wall 24 of the front member forming a front wall for the back member I 2 in cooperation with the fixed front wall 32.
The members are preferably molded from a suitable thermo-setting plastic, with the walls formed integral and the hanger bars 52 formed integrally with the side walls 20, the spring bars said back plate and joined. at its ends to the adjacent ends of said. end walls, the opposite side edge of said back plate being devoid of a side wall, and an abbreviated wall narrower than said end walls, said abbreviated wall having a side edge joined to and extending along the forward edge of said single side wall and end edges joined to the forward edges of said end. walls, the remaining portions of the forward edges of said. end walls being unencumbered, said front section comprising a vertical front plate of sub- 4 stantially the same shape and length but narrower than the back plate of the back section, end walls projecting rearwardly from the end edges of said front plate, said end walls being of substantially the same length as the end Walls of the back section and extending beyond one side edge of the front plate to define arms engaging the outer surfaces of the end walls of the back section, said front section having a single side wall projecting rearwardly fromv the remaining side edge of the front plate with its ends joined to the adjacent ends of the front section end walls opposite said arms, and means hinging said arms on the back section end walls in line with said abbreviated wall whereby when the front section is closed onto the back section the abbreviated wall closes the space between the said one edge of the front plate and the outer ends of said arms, necktie supporting arms projecting from the side wall of said back section, and means on the forward surface of said'back wall and located only in the space between the said opposite side edge of the back plate and the adjacent edge of said abbreviated wall for retaining the neckties in place against the back wall of the front section when the sections are closed.
