A. GOLDBERG.
GARMENT HANGER.
APPLICATION FILED MAY 4, 191a.

nnrnua GOLDBERG, on NEW YORK, N. Y.
GARMENT-HANGER.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Oct. 22, 1918.
Application filed May 4. 1918. Serial No. 232.480,
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ARTHUR GOLDBERG, a citizen of the United States of America, residing at New York city, county and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Garment-Hangers, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
This invention relates to improvements in clothes-hangers or racks, the object being to provide a device of this character arranged to retain a number of garments within a comparatively small space. A further object is to provide a clothes-hanger arranged so that any one of a number of garments hung thereon can be readily seen without the necessity of handling each garment to move it aside. A still further object of my invention is to provide a hanger comprising separably connected members that can be readily stored away and arranged, when assembled, to utilize to the greatest advantage the space taken up by the hanger.
The manner of carrying out my invention will be hereinafter explained in detail, in connection with the drawing, wherein Figure 1 is a side view of one form of my invention;
Fig. 2 is an end View thereof;
Fig. 3 is a side view of another form of my invention;
Fig. 4 is a cross sectional view thereof, the section being taken on a line 4-4 in Fig. 3; and
Fig. 5 is a cross sectional view, the section being taken on a line 5-5 in Fig. 3.
In one embodiment of my invention, I provide an arm 6 carrying a plate 7 through which screws 8 may pass into a wall 9 or other support. The arm 6 carries a plurality of depending brackets or hook-members, comprising post-members l0, 11 and 12. The post-member 10 carries a smgle horn or hook 13, while the post-members 11 and 12 each carry a plurality of horns 14, 15, 16 and 17, respectively. The arm 6 is further provided with a plurality of angularly disposed projections 18 and 19 to retam hats, for instance.
It will be seen that the horns 13, 14, 15, 16 and 17 are out of alinement and at different levels or distances from the arm 6; hence, clothes hung upon the horns will be each plainly visible from the end 20 of the hanger, that is to say, when the hanger is viewed from the end, each garment can be seen and readily selected, for the reason that one will project above the other. This is a great advantage where my hanger is used in closets, wardrobes, etc.
In the form of my invention, illustrated in Fig. 1, the arm 6, posts 10, 11 and 12, together with the horns and projections 18 and 19 are preferably integral, or in one piece.
Fig. 3 illustrates another form of my invention, comprising an arm 21 carrying a plate 22 to be secured to a wall or support. In this form, I provide a pliirality of posts ..23-and 24 (in this instance two) carrying horns 25 and 26 and 27 a at different levels. Each post 23 and 24 carries a hook-member 27 to engage the arm 21. The hook-member 27 is associated with a plate 28 carried by each post to provide a jaw or slot 29 the width of which is slightly larger than the distance between the fiat surfaces 30 and 31 of the arm 21, but less than the distance between the sides 32 and 33 of said arm. To apply the post to the arm, it will be posi tioned to cause the slot 29 to aline with the flat surfaces of the arm 21, after which it can he slipped over the arm and lowered. Hence, it will be apparent that the posts cannot be prematurely removed from the arm 21, but must be moved vertically and then transversely of the arm before they can be separated from said arm. The posts can be positioned where desirable upon the arm, and as many posts may be used as may be found necessary. The hat hangers 34 and 35, in this form of my invention, are carried by a semi-cylindrical shoe 36 carrying a pin 37 to engage openings 38 in, the arm 21. Hence, these hangers or projections are removably retained by the arm 21 and can be shifted to different positions. One or more sets of these hat retaining projections can be used, as is evident, and the hangers may be arfanged in suitable sizes ferent distances from said arm, but in pat- 1 With as many posts and horns as may be allelism With the axis thereof.
found expedient. Signed at New York city, N. Y., this 3 I/Ihat claim as my invention is: day of May 1918.
