Description

PATENTED JAN. 10, 1905. G. W. CAMPBELL. BLANK HOLDER.
APPLICATION FILED IIJIB. 18. 1904.
' [NVENTOR wgvh'fl.
UNITED STATES Patented January 10, 1905.
PATENT OFFICE.
BLANK-HOL'DER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 779,525, dated January 10, 1905.
Application filed February 18, 1904. Serial No. 194,308.
To aZZ whom, it may concern:
Be it known that I, GEORGE W. CAMPBELL, acitizen of the United States, residing at J unction City, in the county of Geary and State of Kansas, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Blank-Holders; and I do declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanyingdrawings, and to the letters of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.
This invention relates to new and useful improvements in blank-holders; and the object of the invention is to produce a device of this character in which a series of trays is provided which are bound up in the form of a book and adapted to hold unused blanks of various kinds and provided with a marginal index, whereby a certain tray may be quickly located.
The invention consists, further, in various details of construction and in combinations and arrangements of parts, which will be hereinafter fully described and then specifically defined in the appended claim.
I illustrate my invention in the accompanying drawings, which, with the letters of reference marked thereon, form a part of this application, and in which Figure 1 is a plan view showing the blankholder open. Fig. 2 is a cross-sectional view through the holder.
Reference now being had to the details of the drawings by letter, A A designate the covers of my improved blank-holder, and incorporated between the covers is a series of leaves, (indicated in the drawings by letters B.) Each of said leaves is hinged to the cover in any suitable manner and has a recess B extending substantially the length thereof. The free edge of each of the leaves of the book or file has a recessed edge C, and adjacent to the ends of each recess appears lettering to identify the contents to be held in each leaf, and in order to allow the identification-marking along the marginal ends of the recess of each leaf said recesses are made of different lengths. For instance, the first leaf will have'the longest recess and the recesses gradually diminishingwith the leaves until the last one is reached, and the last leaf has no recess, but is merely provided with the identification wording, which appears upon the marginal face of the leaf.
By the provision of an apparatus embodying the features of my invention it will be observed that a convenient means is afforded for holding unused blanks, and by the provision of the peculiar manner of recessing the edges of the leaves and having the identification-marking along the marginal edges thereof a person can quickly identify and open to any leaf desired, and when the book made up of leaves is 'not in use it may be placed upon a shelf ready for convenient access.
In practice it is my purpose to employ my improved apparatus for use in holding unused blanks of various kinds, as indicated by the index, affording a means for ready access to the blanks of various kinds, although the same may be used for filing away letters, if desired, or papers of any kind.
While I, have shown a particular construction of apparatus illustrating my improved blank-holder, it will be understood that I may make alterations, if desired, in the details of construction of the device without in any way departing from the spirit of the invention.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
A blank-holder comprising binding-covers, series of leaves having rectangular outlined recesses formed in corresponding faces thereof, the free longitudinal edges of said leaves having rectangular recesses of regularly-increasing sizes, forming steps about three sides of the recesses, said recesses having a common transverse median center, as shown and described.
In testimony whereof I hereunto ELfiX my signature in presence of two witnesses.
GEORGE WV. CAMPBELL.
