FILING CONTAINER.

This invention relates to containers for filing papers and other articles for pocket use and other pur oses.

Pursuant to my lnvention, the container is formed of suitable sheet material such as relatively heavy paper, bookbinders cloth,

leather and the like, which is cut or other wise formed to provide a pocket, the portion of the material forming a side of such pocket being cut or otherwise formed to.

provide one or more slots which communicate with the interior of such pocket.

Usually, the material of the containerextends beyond the portions thereof forming the pocket, such extension serving as a flap Furthermore, such extension may be folded upon itself to provide an additional pocket, which may or may not be slotted similar to the aforesaid pocket.

Further features and objects of the invention will be more fully understood from the following detail description and the accompanying drawings, in which Fig. 1 is a perspective View of one preferred form of my invention, showing the container in the form of a wallet andin an open position; the illustrated wallet is shown with two pockets and combined slots;

Fig. 2 is a perspective View of the wallet shown in Fig. 1, but in closed position;

Fig. 3 is a sectional elevation on line 3-3 of Fig. 1; and

Fig. 4 is a plan view of a die-cut blank showing an outline corresponding to that of the wallet shown, in Fig. 1, preparatory to the steps of' folding and seeuring certain edge portions to one another.

Referring to Figs. 1, 2 and 3, my illustrated container in the form of a wallet comprises a pocket 10 which is formed by securing the edge portions, as explained more fully hereinafter, of the outer portion 11 to the inner portion 12. The edge 13 is preferably formed by folding the material of the wallet, thus enabling an integral or continuous blanked sheet of the material to be employed and folded at one edge 13. On the inner portion 12 I also provide one or more slots 14 which communicate with the interior of the pocket 10. In Figs. 1 and 3, I illustrate the use of three such .slots 14 spaced from one another and substan tially parallel to one another and positioned at right angles to the direction of length of the opening of the pocket 10, but it is apparent that such number may be varied as desired. and arranged with any desired length or lengths and of any desired angle to one another and to the opening of the pocket 10.

Preferably, a covering or flap is provided for the pocket 10, which may be had by the extension 11 of the sheet material of the wallet as a simple flap. see Fig. 2, or by an increased extension which in turn is folded upon itself to form an additional pocket and furthermore may be provided with slots of the character and purpose of the aforesaid slots 14 of the pocket 10.

Such additional pocket and combined slots are shown in the preferred form of my invention illustrated in Figs. 1 and 3, and like parts are marked by like reference numbers with the spflix I The sheet material of the wallet may be paper, preferably of heavy stock, or leather, or book-binders cloth and the like, and the blanks for forming the wallets are outlined, scored and perforated by suitable dies as will be understood. The scoring is effected along the lines of folding of the material, and the perforations are located to provide the slots of desired length or lengths and locations.

The blank shown in Fig. 4 corresponds to that of the wallet appearing in Fig. 1, and in this instance comprises the lines of scor ing designated 15. The extensions 16 of the blank when folded over serve to secure the upper and lower edge portions of the inner portion 12, and similarly the upper and lower edge portions of the inner portion 12, by means of adhesive or other suitable medlum or means. The blank is cut bv thedie to provide the slots 14, and 14, at the locations and of the length and spacing as preferred.

In the use of containers of the wallet form as illustrated in the drawings, papers, memoranda and the like may be folded if necessary and filed under any desired classifica tion in the respective slots and other papers,

.memoranda and the like placed in the pocket or pockets. Such arrangements affords a unitary device of simple and of low economical cost of production, for filing valuable papers, documents, memos and the like in an orderly manner and readily accessible atall times.

.My invention is also useful in the form of albums, photograph books, scrap books, students books, lawyers brief files, desk memorandum files, wallet forms of various sizes and other forms and types of con ,tainers for pocket use, for womens hand bags and other purposes.

Whereas I have described my invention by reference to specific forms thereof, it will be understood that many changes and modifications may be made Without departing from the spirit of the invention,

I claim:

1. A container having oppositely disposed portions of sheet material secured to one another at all edges excepting one edge to provide a pocket having an opening at said one edge, one of said portions being pro vided with a slot extending approximately at right angles to said one edge and communicating freely and directly with the in' terior of said pocket.

2. A container having oppositely disposed portions of sheet material secured to one another at all edges excepting one edge to provide a pocket having an opening at one side, one of said portions being provided with a slot extending approximately at right angles to said one edge and communicating with the interior of said pocket,

one of said portions of sheet material extending beyond said one edge and serving as a flap for closing the opening of said pocket.

3. A container formed of sheet material with its opposite end portions folded upon itself, said end portions being respectively secured to intermediate portions of said sheet material at all edges excepting one edge, thereby providing a pocket between each end portion and its adjacent said intermediate portion, said end ortions being slotted in directions substantially at rightangles to said one edge, each slot communicatlng freely and directly with the interior of its associated pocket.
