DINING-TABLE.

To all whom t may concern N Be it known that we, VILLTAM ALBERT RAMSELL and VILLIAM DAM HILL, both citizens of the United States, residing at Jerome, in the county of Somerset and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Dining-Tables, of which the following is a specification.

The present inventionrelates to rcertain new and useful improvements in self waiting dining tables, and has for its object to provide a table of this character which embodies novel features of construction whereby a revolving center part can be readily mounted upon the table and used for serving food. Further objects of the invention are to provide a Edevice of this character whichl is comparatively simple and inexpensive in its construction, which can be usedeither as an ordinary table or as a dining table, which comprises few and durable parts such as are not liable to getout of repair, and which can be easily cleaned.

VWith these and other objectsrin view, the invention consists in certain novel combinations and arrangementsof the parts as will more fully appear as the description proceeds, the novel features thereof being pointed out in the appended claim.

VrF or a full understanding of the invention, reference is to be had to the following description and accompanying drawing, in which Y Figure 1 is atop plan view of a dining table constructed in accordance with the invention. Fig. 2 is a vertical sectional view through the same.

Corresponding and like parts are referred to in the following description and indicated in all the views of the drawing by the same reference characters.

Y Specifically describing the present embodiment of the invention, the numeral 1 designates the central pedestal which may be substantially cylindrical in shape, as shown, and which is provided at the base thereof with the usual feet 2. A shelf 3 Vwhich is substantially circular in shape is 'mounted upon the top of the pedestal 1, said shelf being connected at its periphery by means of bolts 4 to the top 5. The top 5 is formed with a central opening which is somewhat smaller in diameter than the shelf 3 and is arranged slightly above the shelf, spacing sleeves 6 which surround the bolts Speccation of Letters Patent.

The pedestal'l is formed with an axial bore extending into the same from the upper end thereof, and a tubular bearing sleeve 11 is permanently fitted into the bore, the lower end of the bearing sleeve beingpreferably closed as indicated at 11a. A tubular shaft 12 is mounted within the bearing sleeve v1l and carries a lower revolving center 13, while asecondfshaft 14 is mounted within the tubular shaft 12 and carries anrupper revolving center 15. n g

The upper end of the tubular shaft 12 is provided withfa head 16 which is secured to the lower revolving center 13, said revolving center 13 resting upon anti-friction rollers 17 journaled within brackets 18V which VYare secured to the central shelf 3. Acremov- Vable plate 19 of glass or otherY suitable material rests upon the lower revolving center 18, the two member-S18 and 19 being surrounded by a metallic band 20 which assists in holding theglass plate in proper position Vand projects upwardly above the same so as 'to prevent dishes or the like from being thrown therefrom when the revolving center is rotated. Guide members 21 are secured to the lower face of the revolving center 13, and have retaining claws 22 slidably mounted therein, the outer ends of the retaining claws being bent laterally so as to engage the band 20, while'the inner ends thereof are engaged by coil springs 23. The glass plate 19 and metallic band 2O can be bodily removed and thoroughly cleansed at any time, although they are normally gripped and held securely in position by the action of the springjclaws 22.

rl`he second shaft 14 extends upwardly through central openings in the lower re-l volving center 13 and glass plate 19, andis provided at its upper end with a head 24E formed with radiating arngs 25 upon which the upper revolving center 15 rests. The revolving center 15 is preferably formed of a glass plate which 'is removably mounted in position so that it can be easily kept in a. clean and sanitary condition. A metallic band 26 surrounds the revolving center 15 and preferably projects upwardly above the same to prevent articles from being thrown from the revolving,- center when it is rapidly rotated. The outer ends of the arms of the head 211 are pro-- vided with guides 2?' within which claws 28 are slidably mounted, the outer ends of the claws being bent laterally so as to engage the metallic band 26, while the inner ends thereof are connected to springs Q9 which normally hold the claws in operative position. In order to remove the upper revolving center 15 it is merely necessary to first pull the retaining claws 2S outwardly a sufficient amount to release the metallic band 26, and this construction admits of the glass plate being easily and thoroughly cleansed without difficulty. The lower end of the shaft 14: rests upon the closed end 11EL of the tubular bearing sleeve 11 so as to hold the upper revolving center l5 in an elevated position above the lower revolving center 13. The two revolving centers can be turned independently of each other, and a construction is provided which admits of food being Copie: of this patent may be obtained for five cents each, by addressing the served without confusion or difficulty. It will be understood that the table can be used either with or without the four corner legs 10, and that if desired these corner legs may be omitted and the entire table supported from the central pedestal l.

Having thus described the invention, whatv we claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is

A self waiting dining table including a pedestal, a shaft ournaled within the pedestal, ahead at the upper end of the shaft, a revolving centeij plate removably applied to the head, spring actuated jaws carried by the head for retraining the revolving center plate in position thereon, and a band surrounding the revolving center and projecting above the surface thereof to prevent articles from sliding therefrom, said band being interposed between the spring actuated jaws and the revolving center pla-te.
