OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
DINING-TAB LE Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented NOV. 26, 1907.
Application filed April 17. 1907. Serial No. 368,743.
T 0 all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, J OHN ADAM SGHACK- NER, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of the city of New York, borough of Manhattan, in the county and State of New York, have invented a new and Improved Dining-Table, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
This invention relates to certain improvements in dining tables, and the object of the invention is to provide a table having a rotatably mounted central section which may be freely moved in respect to the remaining portion of the table, so as to avoid the necessity for passing dishes about the table, it only being necessary to place them upon the rotary section and turn said section until the dish comes within reach of the person desiring the same.
The invention consists in certain features of construction and combination of parts, all of which will be fully set forth hereinafter and particularly pointed out in the claims.
Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this specification, in which similar characters of reference indicate corresponding parts in both the figures, and in which Figure 1 is a vertical central section through a table embodying my invention; and Fig. 2 is a plan view thereof, a portion being broken away to more clearly show certain structural features.
My improvement is especially adapted for use with dining tables, but it is evident that the invention may be applied to various other kinds of tables. In the specific form of the invention illustrated in the drawings, I employ my improved device in connection with a circular table having a top 10 provided with a depending flange 11 adjacent the outer edge thereof and supported upon four suitable legs 12. These legs are referably secured together and braced ac jacent their upper ends by a suitable rectangular frame 13 secured to the under side of the table. Within the frame is provided a circular opening 14, of such size in relation to the size of the table as to leave the annular portion 15 of the table top sufficiently wide to support the plates and side dishes, while supported above the opening and covering the same is the central rotatable section 16 of the table top, said section being of a size suflieiently large to support the serving dishes.
For supporting and rotatably mounting the center section 16, I preferably provide a centrally disposed block 17 held in place by two braces 18 extending in each direction and in engagement with the rectangular braces 23 upon its under side and extending crosswise of the grain of the center section, and is provided with a centrally disposed bearing block 24 to which is secured a pivot 25. This pivot is preferably formed of metal and engages with the bushing 20 to support and rotatably mount the center section of the table. The center section 16 is also preferably provided with an outer circumferential band 26 extending below the upper edge of the flange 21, so as to prevent articles from coming into engagement with the rollers 22, and also extending a very slight distance above the top of the section 16, so as to prevent vessels from accidentally sliding off as the center is rotated.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent:
A table having a top provided with a rectangular frame secured to the under side thereof, legs connected to said frame at its corners, said top being provided with a circular opening within said frame, a flange extending upward from said top adjacent the periphery of said opening, rollers carried by said flange, two parallel braces extending across said frame, a second pair of parallel braces extending across said frame and at right angles to the first mentioned braces, a bearing block resting upon said braces and at the center of the opening and having a vertically-disposed passage therethrough, a rotatable top section having a pivot pin extending through said vertically-disposed passage and between the separate pairs of parallel braces, said top section having the porname to this specification in the presence of 1310158 adjacent (iits ieri zihery supgortedhupon two subscribing Witnesses. sai rol ers, an a an surroun ing 1; e periphery of the rotatable section and extend- JOHN SOHACKNER' 5 .ing adjacent the upper edge of the flange car- Witnesses:

In testimony whereof I have signed my CLAIR W. FAIRBANK.
