PAD-HOLDER.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented May 2, figlie?.
Application filed June 10` 1912. Serial No. 702,762.
To all whom t may concern Be it known that I, JULIUs BURAN, a citi- Zen of the United States, residing at Milwaukee, county of Milwaukee, and State of Visconsin, have invented new and useful Improvements in Pad-Holders, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to improvements in pad holders.
The object of my invention is to provide a simple and inexpensive form of construction adapted for repeated use in connection wit a pad or block of paper in which the shee s may be readily torn off without leaving a stub and without detaching pieces of paper in a. manner to cause litter.
Afurther object of my invention is to provide a form of pad holder in which the backing will not collapse with the withdrawal of the sheets, and in which the remaining sheets will be retained against the backing notwithstanding the withdrawal of used sheets. u
In the drawings-Figure l is a longitudiza nal sectional view of a pad holder embodying my invention. Fig. 2 is a cross sectional view drawn on line of Fig. .1. Fig. 3 is a View of thesame as seen fromV the under side.
Like parts are identifiedv by the same reference characters throughout the several views.
AThe pad supporting plate A, illustrated in Fig. 1, is slitted and the material adjacent to the slits bent downwardly to form strengthening flanges B and legs C. This plate A may be of metal. It is provided near one end with posts D reduced at E near their upper ends, and threaded to receive a nut F. rl`he posts D preferably comprise screw threaded bolts having heads G engaging the under surface of the plate A, and having threaded engagement with a flat piece of metal H which bears upon the upper surface of the plate A. A backing member I is elbowed at J and provided with a horizontal flange K apertured to receive the reduced portion E of the posts, and adapted to be supported by the shoulders formed on the posts at the .bases of the reduced portions E. The posts D are preferably screw threaded throughout their length in order that they may be screwed throughthe aperture in the bars H, and also to facilitate the removal of. the sheets as hereinafter eX- plained.
The back I is formed of material having sufficient rigidity to maintain its shape, and
its dimensions are such that when the nuts F are turned to clamping position, the lower or inner margin of the back l will be bound rigidly against the plate A. (or a). Therefore, the holder retains its shape during the withdrawal of the sheets, and it will not bind upon the sheets to prevent them from being torn out as above described.l
`rlhe plate A (or a) may be made of any suitable material. lf made as illustrated in F ig. l, it will preferably be formed of metaLThe plate A, illustrated in Fig. l, is preferably provided with apertures L between the posts D and the adjacent end margin of said plate, vwhereby if it is desired to suspend this plate from hooks, the same can be accomplished, tl'e members B and C belng bent inwardly yto the plane of the plate `A, whereupon the plate A and the plate a may be used interchangeably.
. l claiml. The combination of a pad receiving plate, means for supporting the same, a. set of pad engaging posts extending upwardly 'from the plate near one margin and provided with reduced upper ends, clamping nuts adapted for threaded engagement with the reduced ends of the respective posts, and an elbowed back having one member apertured to receive the reduced ends of the posts and supported by the posts at the base of the reduced portion, and the other member having an edge fitting loosely against said plate.
2. rlhe combination of a pad receiving plate, means for supporting the same, a set of pad engaging posts extending upwardly from the plate near one margin and provided with reduced upper ends, clamping nuts adapted for threaded engagement with the reduced ends of the respective posts, an elbowed back havingone member apertured to receive the reduced ends of the posts and supported by said posts independently of the body, whereby the nuts may be tightened without exerting a clamping pressure upon the pad, and a clamping piece at the base of each post bearing upon the pad receiving surface of the plate and having threaded engagement with such posts, said posts being threaded throughout the length of the pad engaging portion thereof.
3. The combination with a pad receiving plate, of a detachable elbowed back, one por- 'tion of which is at right angles to the plate With its edge bearing against and unconnected with lthe plate, and another portion of which is substantially parallel with the plate, a set of screw threaded posts clamped to the plate and having reduced extremities projecting loosely through the parallel portion of the back and clamped thereto, said posts supporting the backing member at the base of the reduced extremities, the intermediate portions of said posts being adapted to loosely support a pad of paper out of pressure relation with either the plate or the backing member, whereby the sheets of paper in such pad may be successively used 15 and progressively torn from the posts Without change in the position of the remaining sheets or in their loose relation to the pad and backing member.
In testimony whereof I aiX my signature 20 in the presence of two Witnesses.
