Be it lmown that we, RICHARD SGHOGH and FREDERICK B. VVAIBEL, citizens of the United States, residing in the city of Newark, in the county of Essex and `State of New Jersey, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Toilet Articles, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it pertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to numerals of reference marked thereon, forming a part of this specification.

The invention relates to improvements in mirrorsand the like, and has for its principal object to provide a neat and simply constructed setting or casing for the mirror, constructed in two parts, said parts being provided with locking means for locking the setting and for detachably securing within the setting or` casing a glass mirror or the like.

The invention consists essentially of novel means hereinafter described, by which the mirror may be secured in the setting or casing without theuse of tools and dies, and removed therefrom without marring the appearance of the article and with great convenience.

Other objects of this invention, not at this time more particularly mentioned, will be clearly evident from the detailed description of the same.

The invention is clearly illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in whichd Figure l is a perspective view of a mirror embodying our invention. Fig. 2 is a longi tudinal sectional view of the same. Fig. 3 is an enlarged fragmentary view of the casing and molding, illustrating the means for detachably securing said parts together. Fig. 4 is a similar view of a modified form. Fig. 5 is an enlarged fragmentary view of one corner of the casing; and Fig. 6 is a sectional view taken on lines m-m of Fig. 5, illustrating the molding secured to the casing.

Similar numerals of reference are em-` ployed in all of the above described views to indicate corresponding parts.

Referring now to the several figures of the drawing, the casing of the mirror which is preferably metallic, is constructed in two parts, namely, a back l and a molding 2. The back and molding are secured together .Specification of Letters Patent.

by the engagement or interlocking of means formed respectively on the back and molding in the manner shown. `The back l is made from a single piece of suitable material, preferably metal, the edges of which are', by means of suitable punches and dies, formed up in such a manner as to provide a reinforced portion or marginal iiange 3, and the upwardly extending sides 4. The molding 2 is made from a single piece of suitable material, preferably metal, and of such a shape as to correspond with the back l, in order that it can be removably secured thereto.

l/Vhen the parts are to be assembled, the mirror 5, provided with a suitable backing 6, preferably card-board or similar material, is placed in the back l, and the molding 2 is then slipped over the upwardly extending sides 4 of the back 1. In order to secure the molding to the back, we provide the marginal upwardly extending sides 4 near the corners with any convenient number of apertures 7, and also provide the marginal sides 1l of the molding 2 near the corners with a corresponding number of raised or pressed-out portions 8, as illustrated more clearly in Fig. 3 of the drawings, these raised or pressed-out portions 8 acting. as a retaining or holding means for securing the molding to the back by being pressed into the apertures 7.

In lieu of the apertures 7, we provide the upwardly extending sides 4 of the back l with a series of pressed-out portions 9, to have locking engagement with correspond ing pressed-out portions 10 on the marginal sides 11 of the molding 2, as clearly indicated in Figs. 4, 5 and 6 of the drawings.

A setting comprising a back and molding provided with the novel means above described, enables a mirror to be secured thereto without the use of tools and dies, and should, through careless manipulation, a mirror become broken, the same can readily be removed therefrom and another substituted with great convenience and without marring the appearance of the setting.

Experience has demonstrated that the organization above described is a highly efficient one, and while the device described is the preferred embodiment of our invention, we do not wish to be limited to the details of construction and combination herein set forth, it being obvious that minor variations thereof, not involving the exercise of invention, may be made by any one skilled 1n the art, and such departures from What 1s herein described and Claimed, not involving invention, We consider Within the scope and terms of our claim.

In a toilet article, a back made from a single piece of suitable material, comprising a body portion provided With a reinforced, outwardly-extending marginal flange formed by overlapping the metal of the body portion, and a marginal edge extending upwardly from said flange, a molding made from a single piece of suitable material, provided With a doWnWardly-extending marginal iange, the marginal edge 0f the molding adapted to engage With the marginal liange of the body portion ofthe back and holding means upon the marginal edge of the molding near the corners thereof, consisting of raised or pressed-out portions adapted .to engage with apertures formed upon the marginal edge of the back to have locking engagement therewith.
