PATENT OFFICE.

DEVICE FOR GROUPING PHOTOGRAPHS SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent N0. 769,922, dated May 24, 1904. Application filed August 27, 1903. Serial No. 171,004. (No model.)

To all whom it may concern.-

Be it known that I, GEORGE G; RODMAN, a citizen of the United States of America, residing at Washington, in the county of Washing ton and State of Iowa, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Devices for Grouping Photographs, of which the following is a specification.

My invention relates to an improvement in devices for grouping photographs, and is an improvement on the construction set forth in Letters Patent No. 696,272, granted to me March 25, 1902, the present invention consisting in certain novel features of construction and combinations of parts, which will be hereinafter described, and pointed out in the claims.

In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is a view of my improved top or front plate. Fig. 2 is a view of the bottom plate or disk. Fig. 1 is a plan view, and Fig. 5 is a view showing two of these devices applied to a block or easel as one eXemplification of the improved mounted device.

By my improved construction I am enabled to obtain a top disk or plate capable of having a more desirable finish and variety of designing, &c. In my former construction the plate or disk which in the present form is the bottom plate or disk, as shown in Fig. 2, was nickel-plated, as any other finish mars the photographs or cards placed thereunder. The objection sometimes found to this nickelplating on the front or top surface was that it reflected the light so at night that it was disagreeable to some, being dazzling to the eyes. By making the two plates or disks separate it is possible to finish the bottom one (shown in Fig. 2) in nickel-plate and the top one (illustrated in Fig. 1) in a variety of ways.

A representsthe top, and B the bottom, disk.

These may be variously formed, and I have shown a desirable contour in the sectional views, in which the bottom or lower disk is slightly corrugated and the upper or top disk curvedand fashioned, as illustrated, with an overlapping flange 6 at the outer edge,-which encircles and incloses the outer edge of the lower or bottom plate or disk. This outer flange is adapted to fit snugly over the edge of the bottom plate or disk, and the two are held together by the central bolt C, which extends through holes 1 and 2 in the disks. This bolt is spring-actuated, as in my previous construction and held in a block or other support'D in any convenient manner.

While I have referred to the upper plate or disk as being curved and ornamental in its contour, it is perfectly feasible to make it flat across the top or, in fact, in any form, although the particular shape illustrated seems desirable. Likewise, by making the top disk or plate a separate part it may be ornamented or finished in any design to suit the taste or requirements of business.

In Fig. 5 I have illustrated one of a variety of different applications of the invention.

The invention thus constructed is simple, cheap, and easily made and at the same time is attractive in appearance and useful in th performance of its functions. 4

It is evident that other slight changes in addition to those suggested might be made in the form and arrangement of the several parts described without departing from the spirit and scope of my invention, and hence I do not wish to limit myself to the exact construction herein set forth; but,

Having fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-

1. As an article of manufacture, adevice for grouping photographs and similar articles, consisting of a suitable support, a pair of separable plates or disks and means for yieldingly retaining said disks together upon the support.

2. As an article of manufacture, the device for grouping photographs and other objects consisting in a pair of separable disks having a central hole and one disk provided with an to this specification in the presence of two suboverlapging flange whichdfit? and dincloses ghe' scribing witnesses. outer e ge of tie ot ier is r, an means or s *1 yieldingly connecting these disks to a suit- GEORGE RODMAN' 5 able support, between which and the inner disk Witnesses:

the articles to be grouped are held. MARSH E. J AILEY,

In testimony whereof I have signed my name EDMUND D. MoRRIsoN.
