WITNESSES I IIWENTOR 7 [f IZA Sta/Play 69/60)? I By I i ATTORNEYS STANLEY GERSON, OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
REVERSIBLE CUFF.
Specification of Letters Patent.
, Patented Apr. 4, 1916.
Application filed September 28, 1915. Serial No. 53,035.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, STANLEY GERsoN, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of the city of New York, borough of Manhattan, in the county and State of New York, have invented a new and Improved Reversible Cuff, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
' W "The invention relates to shirts and similar garments, and itsobject is to provide a new and improved reversible cuff of soft material and of doubled-up type, and arranged to permit of Wearing the cuff reversedly'or turned inside out thus allowing its use for a long time prior to laundrying it, or in case the original outer face becomes threadbare or torn.
In order to accomplish the desired result, use is made of a doubled-up cufl of soft material provided with the usual registering cuff buttonholes at the sides and with a set of button holes along each end, either set 'being adapted for engagement with a corresponding set of buttons on the sleeve band of the garment.
A practical embodiment of the invention .is represented in the accompanying drawings forming a part of this specification, in
which similar characters of reference indi-' cate corresponding parts in all the views.
Figure '1 is a perspective view of the reversible cufl' as applied, parts being shown broken out; Fig. 2 is a plan view of the cuff in unfolded position; Fig. 3 is a. similar view of a portion of a shirt sleeve provided I at its sleeve band witha set of'buttons, and
Fig! 4 is an enlarged sectional side elevation of the reversible cuff as applied to. the
. sleeve band of a garment.
The cuff 10 is made of silk or other suitable soft and pliable material and it is preferably made of two ply and adapted to be doubled up along the transverse median-line 11, as shown in Fig, 2, to form a doubled up cuff, as illustrated in Figs. 1 and 4.. The
-cuff is provided at the sides with register ing buttonholes 12 for engagement by cuff buttons or links 13 to hold the cuff in closed position, as shown in Figs. 1 and 4. The cuff 10 is provided alongthe ends with sets of buttonholes 14 and 15, either set of which is adapted to be engaged with a set of buttons 16 attached to the sleeve band 17 of the sleeve 18 of a shirt or other garment.
It will be noticed that when the cuff 10 is doubled up so that the set of buttonholes 14 are on t h e outer portion of the cuff then the buttonholes 15 are on-the inner portion and are engaged with the buttons 16, as plainly indicatedin Figs. 1 and 4. Now in case the cuff becomes soiled on the outer portion it is only necessary for the user to disengage the buttonholes 15 from the buttons 16 and to reverse the cuff so that the soiled outer portion becomes the inner portion, and the inner portion becomes the outer portion. The buttonholes 14 are then engaged with the buttons 16 to fasten the cuff on the sleeve band 17 of the sleeve 18. Now in case the outer ply of the cuff becomes threadbare or torn the cuff is detached from the buttons 16 and the cufi buttons 13 are removed to quently not visible when the cufi is re-attached to the buttons 16 by either set of buttonholes 14 or 15, as above explained. It is understood that the cuff buttons 13 are also reengage'd with the registering buttonholes 12, after the cuff is turned over, as above explained.
From the foregoing it will be seen that the cuff can be used reversedly or turned inside out, thus allowing its use for a long time prior to laundrying it or in case the original outer ply or layer becomes threadbare or torn.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire .to secure by Letters Patent:
1. As an article of 'manufacture, 'a' reset of buttons on the sleeve band of the garment on which the cuff is to be worn. I
2. In combination, a garment sleeve band having a set of spaced buttons and a reversible cuff of soft material doubled up along its transverse median line. the sides of the cuff being provided with registering cuff buttonholes adapted to be engaged by cliff name to this specification in the presence of buttons, and each end of the cuff being protwo subscribing witnesses.
vided' with a set of buttonholes, either set of STANLEY GER-SON. which is adapted to engage the said set of Witnesses: 5 buttons on the sleeve band. THE-O. G. HOSTER,
In mtimony whereof I have signed my I PHILIP D. RoLLHAUs.
