ANTONIO GENTILELLA, OF PHILADELPHIA, PENNSYLVANIA.
BABY-WALKER.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Mar. 21, 1916.
Application filed June 2, 1914. Serial No. 842,484.
self to walk without danger of falling and without the attention of his parents or nurse.
Another object of the invention is to provide a device of this character which is constructed so that it may be conveniently knocked down whereby the parts may be placed in compact form for storage or shipment.
Further objects of the invention will appear as the following description is read in connection with the accompanying drawing which forms a part of this application, and in which Figure 1 is a top plan view. Fig. 2 is a vertical sectional view. Fig. 3 is a side elevation. Fig. 4: is a detail sectional view through one of the coupling members.
Referring more particularly to the drawing, 1 generally represents the frame which is constructed of a plurality of arouate sections 2 each having its terminals provided with threaded sockets 3 to receive the threaded ends of the coupling members 4 and 5. Each coupling member 4 is provided with an annular collar 6 and a threaded extension 7 adapted to receive the threaded sleeve 8 inwardly flanged, as shown at 9, to engage the head 10 on the coupling member 5, it being understood that the sleeve 8 is loosely mounted upon the coupling member so as to be turned into engagement with the threaded extension 7 Supported upon uprights 11 is the usual body ring 12 from which is adjustably suspended by means of the straps 13 the seat frame 14 in this instance covered with cane 15 as shown. The body ring also carries a suitable tray 16 removably held in position by the thumb bolts 17. Each upright 11 is constructed of an intermediate section 18 and upper and lower sections 19 and 20, the former of which is provided with a flanged collar 21 apertured to receive fastening devices for securing the section beneath the body ring while the latter section is provided with a flanged head 22 similarly apertured to receive fastening devices for connecting the same to one of the frame sections. The sections are all connected together by coupling members 23 which are identical in every respect with the coupling members for joining the sections of the frame.
The straps 13 are preferably made of elastic material so as to yieldingly support the infant and are made adjustable by buckles 24 so as to accommodate the device for children of different size. The entire frame as shown is supported upon casters 25 as is usual so that when the infant stands up straddling the narrow portion of the seat he can push the device around on the casters.
YVhat is claimed is In a baby walker, a frame comprising a plurality of segmental cylindrical bodies, a pair of oppositely extending headed plugs disposed in alinement, and each having a threaded pointed end portion, said seg mental bodies being formed at opposite ends with point receiving threaded openings in which the threaded pointed portions of the plugs are. adapted to be received, the head of one of said plugs being relatively broad, a threaded extension projecting from said head in alinement with the shank of said plug and terminally engaging the head of the other of said plugs, an internally threaded sleeve freely slidable upon the shank of the last mentioned plug and having an inward flange engaging the head thereof, said sleeve being threadedly associated with the said threaded extension and terminally contacting said relatively broad head, and a guard ring supported upon said frame in spaced relation thereto.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
ANTONIO GENTILELLA.
